Bob F Posted December 13, 2005 Report Posted December 13, 2005 Does anyone know where they used to catch Common Skate around here? I assume it would be a deep mark somewhere. Didn't know we had marks deep enough. BF Quote
duncan Posted December 13, 2005 Report Posted December 13, 2005 according to Dave they were reasonably common (sry) in the bay - I am sure he will be happy to chat about them at the next club meeting. Quote
great white Posted December 13, 2005 Report Posted December 13, 2005 I seem to remember reading that it was in the deep water behind the isle of wight But I can not remember ever hearing of one landed ether here or when I lived at Pompey. Charlie Quote
Swainiac Posted December 14, 2005 Report Posted December 14, 2005 Charlie, you're right, it was the deeper section off St Catherines, actually, where the recent Eagle ray record was taken earlier this year, fished out now for commons and all manner of shark I'm afraid. Rich Quote
Newboy Posted December 14, 2005 Report Posted December 14, 2005 I spoke to a customer about it and he suggested it might be an angler fish (one with a daggling bit off its nose), Colin Penny of Flamer 3 caught one about 30lb this year, it got hold of a pout already hooked. Quote
great white Posted December 14, 2005 Report Posted December 14, 2005 You could be right Kam Monkfish or angler fish would fit the bill I think Anglers still turn up on occasions but not often, I have never heard of a local Monk Charlie Quote
