Maverick Martin Posted December 21, 2005 Report Posted December 21, 2005 Well our November open and xmas bash are now a distant memory. The next competition we can fish is the Poole Dolphins open cod comp. Their poster is attached below. Will you be fishing it Martin Quote
gruesome twosome Posted December 21, 2005 Report Posted December 21, 2005 yes me al and my brother lets hope for fair weather merry xmas to you veronica and family and to all club members ho ho ho trev Quote
great white Posted December 21, 2005 Report Posted December 21, 2005 Me and the Boys are hoping to, but COD are very rare on GW these days Tight lines over the holidays guys Charlie Quote
bliss2 Posted December 22, 2005 Report Posted December 22, 2005 I will be there with Rich and Bob F joining me also dean and hopefully my old boy Quote
crazy fred Posted December 22, 2005 Report Posted December 22, 2005 Lets hope for good weather and a touch of luck and who knows ,i think this may involve covering a few miles for a decent swipe at this one so lets hope fuel prices go down and the price of chips go up " i think not , so be lucky Quote
Newboy Posted December 22, 2005 Report Posted December 22, 2005 Only cod will count in this comp, so with the dire state of cod fishing in general, there is every chance that there will be no winner at all Quote
duncan Posted December 22, 2005 Report Posted December 22, 2005 ah but the one odd cod can make you very happy in the comp - as I only caught 2 cod last year and one was in this I know! Phaeton should be out with Dave and Paul(scentrail)J............ Quote
Bob F Posted December 23, 2005 Report Posted December 23, 2005 Duncan, are you suggesting Paul J hasn't washed for a while???? Quote
duncan Posted December 23, 2005 Report Posted December 23, 2005 in case of misunderstandings - no! however his 'standard' hook bait doubles for a 5kg block of magnet! Quote
Paul J Posted December 23, 2005 Report Posted December 23, 2005 Looking forward to it, the way this usually works is i put down the big Cod baits and Duncan ends up catching all the fish on single Squid baits Paul J Quote
duncan Posted December 24, 2005 Report Posted December 24, 2005 At least the forecast looks reasonable for that period - either N 3s or possibly light variables if the system goes a little faster than predicted. Might be a tad cold for the open boats though - still winter woolies and all that; wouldn't be cod fishing without eh? Wouldn't be cod fishing without some cod either I suppose..........still 1 out of 2 ain't bad? Quote
great white Posted December 24, 2005 Report Posted December 24, 2005 I am afraid the Cod comp is now off for the boys and I I need to be at the Club at lunch time Tight lines to all who fish it. Charlie Quote
duncan Posted December 26, 2005 Report Posted December 26, 2005 Sorry to hear that Charlie - however the forecast is now looking very poor for Thursday with the system having speeded up way too much from the look of things! Wednesday looking stunning for those that can take advantage of it but fresh Southerlies forecast through Thursday will test everyone Still 3 days to go so maybe...............here's hoping! Quote
duncan Posted December 28, 2005 Report Posted December 28, 2005 well the prognosis looks good - if it pans out as predicted we should have a reasonable day out; possibly even a nice day out! Good luck to all Quote
TomBettle Posted December 28, 2005 Report Posted December 28, 2005 Hoping to get out in the other boat "Nautibusiness" if I can persuade fishing mate Chris to join me. Centre console boat so more than a tad chilly, which is why it may be tough to persuade Chris. The prospect of -4 first thing and a 30knot wind chill factor on the way out leaves a little to be desired, particularly for us fine weather fishermen, however what with the boat show in two weeks it will be my last chance of a winter Cod. If we get out, hope to see some of you over at the car park. Good luck and tight lines to all who make it. Tom PS: Where is the sign in exactly as I haven't a clue, and what time? Quote
Maverick Martin Posted December 28, 2005 Author Report Posted December 28, 2005 Hi Tom Details on our home page http://www.pbsbac.co.uk/ Martin Quote
TomBettle Posted December 28, 2005 Report Posted December 28, 2005 Hi Tom Details on our home page http://www.pbsbac.co.uk/ Martin Just got back from dropping the littlen back to her mum's. Chris called and has whoosed out with some excuse of "having a couple of things to do" so I won't be fishing now, but I may bomb out and see what is going on with my camera. What general area is everyone likely to be at? Needles? Whatever, I will only have my hand held with me and no onboard charger so will only come on in emergencies so if you have any corking fish (or any cod at all for that matter) and fancy a decent offshore shot taken from a few yards away from the boat, call me only mobile 07780687795 and I will nip over to you. All pics will be digitally available, but around 3Mb plus so email is not advisable, CD's better, saying that, someone needs to catch something first!!! Call me if you have anything worth snapping. Good luck Tom Quote
alun j. Posted December 28, 2005 Report Posted December 28, 2005 Tom, I'll be out fishing.........but not in the comp., as I'm going out from Mudeford and don't want to go to Poole and back [twice]. Probably be on the Dolphin Sands area....... seems just as productive as the Needles for me [ and a much shorter trip]. Will call you up if Gordon or I catch anything worthwhile !! Have a good day, Alun. Quote
