shytalk
a tasty bit of yankee kit need a thorough examination though as some american boats i looked at were a bit flimsy in the build otherwise ok if you can afford the fuel bills
Adam F
What are we looking at fuel wise?
Newboy
Fuel economy should be better than BW if if can fish 6 onboard.
TomBettle
Flat out will use about 80 to 100 litres a hour and cruising about 45 to 55 litres an hour based on the figures given. She shouldn't need trim tabs to hold her on the plane or get out of the whole quickly with the power house provided so check the beam and lateral stability as a lot of the American sports fishers are pretty narrow and a little rocky. Check it has fully self draining decks and doesn't just dump water in te bilge to be pumped out. Looks quite a smart boat, but freeboard looks very low. Make sure it is CE plated as it is a US import. Don't even sniff at it if it isn't. Check the owner has full chain of title including VAT invoice from new or on import. And some decent service history. If all the above checks out fine definitely get a survey. It may make a fantastic boat, but be careful. Give me a call if you want some help Adam. Bob F
Nice dream Adam, but get back to reality, practicallity and affordabilty. She's too big to tow, you'd need mooring fees, that engine will be a real big gas guzzler, you'd need a minimum of 4 crew to pay the running costs, and the service bills for the engine will be too high. Stick with your 175 plans. BF

Adam F
Youre right - shame about the V8 Petrol.... Looked a good deal at first glance, and good looking boat though - what finally decided it was when the owner emailed the piccies over tonight - she looks at bit shabby up close, no electrics etc... Back to the 175 hunt!

Gnasher
Adam, my last boat had a volvo penta V6 petrol and it would of cost me a fortune to of just got her out of the harbour.....From reading your many catch reports it seems that you fish a lot, sneaking out for many short trips aswel, if you took on this boat then I think you would have to spend all day chasing up crew just so the expenses would be covered and the short evening trips and morning trips would be reduced. I must admit, she is a beauty though...

Adam F
Cheers Dave Seen both of those - the first one seems dear for a boat with a 75hp....and the 2nd seems dear in comparison for a few which were advertised a few months ago - Im currently looking at a new package... Cheers for looking though - budget is 15k and I want 100hp min. Adam

Seamouse
Im currently looking at a new package... Hi Adam, Go talk to Paul at the Show. They are often willing to haggle at the Shows, or if you go early in the week you might even get a chance at the demonstrator which is usually even cheaper Steve
duncan
hehehe nice looking boat Adam. as usual I will put some slightly different angles.......... 1. Almost certainly an 8ft 6 beam as the US boats around this size are trailed and fr many states this is the limit. It will weigh in at around 2600kg so it isn't 'too big to be trailed' given the right tow vehicle/trailer. It is however probably to big to use as a 'trailer boat'. Some might consider this the best of both worlds - others the worst. 2. Make sure it is CE plated as it is a US import. Don't even sniff at it if it isn't. Do you mean CE plated or RCD coded / HIN Tom? The latter came in in 1997 with some 1996 craft having them but provided that youhave proof of VAT status and that the craft was in the EU before 1.1.97 I believe you are legal. 3. Fuel is heavy but my figures suggest that Tom's are at the top end of loaded and dirty. Traveling any istance will cost money. However do not forget t view ths from a marginal cost perspective ie the additional fuel over and above a 90hp OB for example. If you do split costs then at 3 v 2 you will probably be costing more but with 4 v 2 I would suggest you start to gain. 4. Whatever has been suggested I don't think this will sell anywhere near the asking price - if I were a betting man I would suggest that 12750 is all he will get if he wan't to sell before next season. If he really cleans it up he might get 14500 in May.
