Cobra Vhf Radio

I would like to highlight a problem I had with my Cobra MR F75 EU DSC radio and the successful outcome.

Back in December, I had a problem with with the radio in that, when I transmitted on the microphone/speaker handset, all I go was a loud buzzing sound. After Christmas I reported this, through Piplers of Poole, to Marathon Leisure of Hayling Island, the UK distributers. Their diagnosis was that the microphone was faulty and, even though the warranty was just over, supplied a new mike under the terms of the warranty. I tried this in January when I went to sea again and the original problem still persisted. Again I contacted Marathon about sending it to them for repair and was informed they only replaced faulty units. However, the warranty was now 2 months out of date and this would mean paying for a new radio. I did point out that it was only out of date due to the original mis-diagnosis, but this didn't wash. Again I asked the question about getting it repaired as I don't consider

Hi Terry

Its good to hear about good but especially bad experiences of customer service, forewarned is forearmed.

Glad it all worked out for you but the company really should have sorted things out without you having to get stern with them. Some peeps are sooo short sighted

By the way next time you have cause for complaint you could say you use a forum that has at present an average of over 350 visitors a day ph34r.gif and that one post can go a long way.. ph34r.gif ..if you've got it flaunt it tongue.gif

Martin, I did use the forum as extra muscle and that was probably a contributary factor.

Dave, I got the radio from Piplers. As I was there, it seemed a good price and no P&P. I have used it a couple of times and over the distance we're usually at, it worked as well as the fixed radio.

As far as plotters are concerned, I think Cobra is a fairly new entrant into the market and for something as critical as navigation, I think I would be tempted to stick with the tried and tested. I do agree, though, that the 12v plug in is a good feature. Perhaps some of the more established manufacturers should take this on board. What software does it support?

Glad you got a result in the end!

Just had a little peak at some of the Cobra stuff and it looks pretty good, certainly tops for the money.

Plotter:

If it uses C-MAP NT MAX it can't have to bad a screen and some of the features looked pretty good.

One of the online chandleries are doing a deal to throw in a fixed VHF with a plotter. In my book that sounds pretty good value.

I know Charlieannear has been looking for some inexpensive kit for his new bateau. If anyone see's him let him know as this could be the right stuff for him.

Terry:

If the Cobra Dealers suddenly get strangely busy, you may wish to point out the reason why!

...the PBSBAC website again!
