Mike Fox
I tried the "japonica" mini-squid from Wessex Angling (Poole) last summer. Typical angling shop prices, but no waste, and a whole one on a No4 fine wire bumped on the drift seemed to sort out the larger bream nicely. britboard
Hi Andy, I always go to my local Chinese supermarket for squid (Hoo-Hings on the north circular) i think they are nationwide, but can't be sure? they sell it in 1, 5, 10, 15 & 20kg blocks to the resturant trade and its about 50% cheaper than i could find it elsewhere. Its probably looking in the yellows for one near you, i only found this one by accident whilst being dragging around Ikea on a sunday afternoon by my good lady. Newboy
No need to stock up yet, traditionally prices don't go up till autume. Not to mention we don't use that much squid during spring, breams need only a stripe, a 1 lb block will last you a whole session. Summer are mackeral time, only when it's codding time you need lots of squids.
lady jane
much prefer to shop once a year !!!! thanks for your ideas andy
Newboy
Hoo Hing has another branch near Mitcham and one somewhere in East London. There's Wing Yip as well as See Woo which have branches thru out London, but not down here. Paul's probably best bet, get a box of 1lb squid from frozen seafood suppliers (prawnman). If the angling shop runs out of squid by any chance, go to Wah Hing in Boscombe or Didcot Ind Est, they have both 1 and 5 lb block for sale. In Southampton try Yau's brothers near St Mary.
