PPS: I am up north handing a boat over until Thursday, but the kettle will be on from Thursday onwards (ask Martin he knows about the permanently steaming kettle)
crazy fred
has he done the nvq in child care so he can take children out, you know what was said at the committee meeting children spell trouble
Afishionado
has he done the nvq in child care so he can take children out, you know what was said at the committee meeting children spell trouble Not necessarily Crazy it depends on how old they are and how well educated. You don't stand much chance of getting a 3 year old spelling trouble let alone the average 15 year old these days! Mad Mike
Maverick Martin
has he done the nvq in child care so he can take children out, you know what was said at the committee meeting children spell trouble Crazy It wasn't a committee meeting but a club meeting. Its not the children that are trouble it's the PC brigade and the sue them now think about it later lot that tend to curb what clubs like ours could offer kids. Shame but thats the world we now live in Martin

Seamouse
To be legally covered, if you actively interact with children through your sport then you or one of the adults present needs to have been police-checked. I had to do this as a club instructor in a different discipline, can't remember the name of the check but its the same as done for teachers etc. The form is short and simple as it basically a means for the Government to make money. You pay them about
Gnasher
it all depends on the situation. I have coached many youth football teams and i have to complete a CRB check form. Its a pain, but a coach in my club tried getting through to do coaching sessions, just a few months ago infact, and he was dodgy....the CRB check picked this up. On a brighter note, this will be the first year that i will be able to take my son out, hes 5 in June, i cant wait, as the plan is to help him bag his 1st mullet from the harbour...........cant wait.... great white
Best of luck with your lad Dan I took mine at a very early age, they landed a few fish and look at them now as keen as Dad and a big influance on their mum to buy the new bigger boat. I have a great picture of Sam at about three with his first bass over 2lb. but I had better not post it, with his red boots on. carefull with your replies he is nearly 16, has attitude and is almost the same size as his Dad now Charlie
Gazza
Dan, Last summer i took my two kids out with mum (wife) who at the time were two and five. ....Before i get any comments i did not marry my mum!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have also taken the 5yr old out with his school friend and dad. As i think one child one adult ratio is safer. Anyway what i want to tell you is that if your child is like any other 5yr and just a little on the excited side i would strongly recomend drifting rather than anchoring as the scare area from the boat will probably reach a good few miles!!!!!!! I hope you have as much fun as us And remember catching a fish is a bonus Even if it is deaf Gary

blueboatdriver
I think the most important thing when taking children out is that you're pretty sure of catching something or you can really put them off. The first thing I did with my son when he was five was take him out with a Rappala and he caught two bass both about 2lbs. This is usually a sure fire way of catching a bass even if you do throw most of them back it keeps the youngsters interested. Another good one is when the bream come in as you usually catch a few. Coddy
You can't beat a mackie session for kids. They hold the rod and feel the fish going crazy if you have a small string of 2 or 3. If nothing else they enjoy watching them come aboard flapping everywhere and stops them feeling sick or board. Coddy
Gnasher
heres my little man with his 1st fish. I took him fishing for small carp in a local pond, just to get his enthusiasm up. We had a great day, but i'll just take him out on a warm summers day in flat conditions, drifting very close in with some feathers. he aint comming out every time, coz i think he will drive me mad as he dont stop talking........haha

blueboatdriver
My four year old (three at the time) always decides she's driving when going up the river to Wareham. This adds an edge to your concentration.
