Adam F
Thanks for the photo Mike.  Now a few open questions to the floor re. Cuba  The things that put me off slightly having done a little research...  - Quite alot of reviews give the rooms as dated, smelly, dirty etc?? - No resturants on the Cayos - only the hotels, food reported as just average in many cases? - Apart from fishing and sun bathing - little else to do?   Finally - is it possible to Bonefish the flats without a guide?  Cheers
Newboy
Saw a travel guide last year, many homes now double up as restauarant accepting American dollar catering for the tourists.
jack
My daughter has just returned from an all incusive holiday in Cuba [not a cheapy either ]. she says NEVER AGAIN ! Hotel grubby; Staff unbelievably rude and offhand. Meals to school dinners standard; Many personal items stolen from room by maid.Management attitude= Tuff titty,we can get all the U.S. and Canadian guests we can take.!The yanks and Canadians were all permanantly drunk, sick ;rowdy and obnoxious..3 day excursion to Havana, was just as bad.Begging locals, muggings [not her and her partner ] and Filthy Hotel and street areas, just added to a ruined holiday. The weather;sea;snorkelling and fishing were O.K.BUT ABSOLUTELY NOT recomended for a family holiday. Next year back to Kenya....jack
Afishionado
Thanks for the photo Mike. Now a few open questions to the floor re. Take out your Tesco club card or similar whack it in the slot of the Air Conditioner control this allows you to leave the Air Con on all the time rather than the room key thingy that you have to take with you. Go to the bar and have a drink or two and then return to your sweet smelling room It's the ever present humidity that makes for the stuffy smell in closed rooms. Just leave the air con on 24/7  - No resturants on the Cayos - only the hotels, food reported as just average in many cases  Cuba tourist board tell the hotels tha the tourists like international type food therefore they do not use any Cuban dishes. The food is very fresh, plentiful, cooked well but absolutely uninspired. It will not be a gourmet holiday. However if you bring in some fish for the chefs and one for yourself they will prpare it beautifully.  Apart from fishing and sun bathing - little else to do?  There are organised trips that your tour operator will tell you about but remember this is a slightly paranoid communist contry so they are all accompanied trips. Apart from these it is a sun and relaxing place. The Daiquiri has a great in house entertainment crew who provide nightly caberet entertainment of a very good standard.   Finally - is it possible to Bonefish the flats without a guide?  Short answer is no. You will need a guide to enter the national parks lagoons These guys are dirt cheep when compared to using a professional guide in the USA. Remember too that they are very tight on protecting their lagoons, fishing and their paranoid security (not the guides, they would spit on Castro, it's the military & police ). My advice is not to risk fishing on your own outside the hotel areas. A night in clink and a trip home to the UK the next day would be your reward for being where you should not be.  Mad Mike
britboard
Just leave the air con on 24/7 Thank you, its that kind on mentality that keeps me in work and pays for my fishing etc. Â Keep up the good work! Â Simon L

Simon L You work in Cuba? That must make commuting difficult.  You'll know then that to have any sort of comfort in Cuba one needs air con on 24/7. Night time temperature is a cool 26C outside and the humidity is about 90%.   Mad Mike

Fugazi
If you must go to the Carribean, try Granada as the fishing is good and so are the hotels and food. Only caution is that we went 7 years ago and although it was fantastic then, things might have changed. Â Gordon H Â
