BigMac
Just thought all might want to see photo taken at 7.20 this morning at low water. Its not too clear, but the buoy in the foreground is the one opposite the east end of the quay. Just past the furthest sand bar is the second buoy and just to the right of the coastguard rib is the third buoy, on the far side of the bar. BigMac
Here's another showing the sand bars a bit clearer. Allan
Adam F
Cheers Al - quite helpful. They have been very low (high?) this winter - begs the question - what where you doing at 7.30 this morning - out on the boat??
alun j.
4 pm. yesterday a small sailing cruiser found that bar as he tried to get out on the falling tide........and going the wrong side of that yellow buoy. The wind and waves slowly bumped him along , and 20 mins later , he got back in the ' channel' and crept out , bouncing over the waves ......... but there didn't seem to be much swell further out..... ......... nor this morning , as I drove past Branksome Chine, on my way to dig some worms ....... for when I can get out later this week [ ???????] Back to the Bar at Mudeford....... the sand that got washed away through the winter is starting to return......... you can see that on these photos. On the last big tides, two weeks ago, the area was completely flat at LW., with areas of hard gravel level with sand. Now , the bank is building close to that first yellow buoy; but it still looks tricky between the next two. If I go out tomorrow, it'll be much later than these photos show, to be sure of water. BigMac
Adam, unfortunately not Just thought with the big tide it would show up the deep water a bit better. Looks much different to January when I was last out. Good news is, work is completed on Aquafresh and is lifted back in the water tomorrow, just need the weather to play ball, Allan
Coddy
When do they re-install all the channel markers up the river and through the run? I thought they were layed out before Easter. Lets hope that they carry out a depth survey at the same time to get some dredging done as I think it will be interesting come Easter with boats starting to go out. BigMac
Spoke to Nick in Ribs and the channel markers are being set next week by Strides Interestingly he is a coastguard as well. The rib in the photo was on a (turned out to be a false alarm) shout. They had been out for 5 hours in the rib and spent at least half an hour, while I watched them, trying to find any sort of depth of water over the bar but ended up calling for the tractor and trailer to pick them up from Avon beach. I can see propellor retailers making a fortune this season. Its going to severely cut down the window to get in or out, thats for sure!! Wedger
On the one hand I'm perhaps a bit relieved we didn't take a mooring in Xchurh . I suppose this can only add pressure.......... and cost in Poole. Trailing after all.
alun j.
It will get better through Spring and into Summer; as the bank near the yellow buoy grows......... it keeps the water more into a channel that then cuts its way through a bit deeper ......... we all hope !!
