Coddy
Well managed to get out at last from Christchurch. We followed Fugazi in to Wick slip at about 8.00am Paul D was already there with the ex "Great White" crew. Soon launched and off down the the river looking forward to a good days fishing. Nice to see all the buoys laid out up/down the river marking the channel nicely. Out over the bar with no problems, wekk it was 1.5hrs before high tide. We, Neo, Marine Boy, Sammy & Fugazi, all decided to follow each other out to Christchurch ledge. It was some what choppy and after looking down in the bottom of the boat I deal feel a little quessy. This soon passed off and I did manage to ease out a Ballan Wrasse but that was all. Bill, my crew mate, did not get a bite! As we did not have much luck we all decided to move, Bill and I had had enough of being bounced around so headed inshore to Boscombe and join some charters and private boats driftting for place or anything! Again as nothing showed he headed back in to catch the tide. Unfortunatly I managed to catch the bar again on the way in and damaged the prop a bit! So good to be out but only one fish! Looking forward to tomorrow when we are heading for Weymouth. Coddy

Paul J
It was pretty slow out there, 2 dogs and a pout for us. Sam did a great job at the helm in some sloppy conditions-it was a bit of a luxury having crew for a change- Cheers Sam PJ

Paul D
Had a not very productive trip out ( one small pout - and when I say small I mean small ! ) to me and one doggie to Daniel. Conditions were somewhat lumpy and looking at the weather today, I can't see it being any smoother today. Still, was good to give the engine a blast and watch the look on Daniel's face as we done some tight cornering in the bay Daniel was good crew and is more than welcome to crew again. Coming back in over the ledge was fun, some pretty big rollers to surf in on - great fun. Even more pleasing was the fuel consumption. Wick to the end of Christchurch Ledge and then over to X-Ray ( at which point Paul J was on his second tank ) and back to Wick. Used around 8 to 9 litres which I think was due to not being able to "floor the throttle" due to the conditions. Back at Wick we saw a boat I thought I recognised, after they went I remebered it was Manatee - Les L's boat. Gave him a quick call, as for all I knew it could have been stolen. - It was his brother borrowing it. Still, he has learnt a lot about the bar at Christchurch now and needs to find a propellor repair/replacement centre. !!
Les L.
Thanks Paul, your call much appreciated - and the silence on the line when i asked my brother how my prop was doing was priceless Off work next week and will be tring to get out Tuesday/Wednesday/Friday -first trips for ages - tides/winds/prop permitting - any of you Wick regulars planning on being out ? Fugazi
The conditions on Friday were not the best, considering the forecast but we did manage to catch 3 dogfish on the ledge (2 dark brown ones with large spots and 1 light brown one with small spots). No bream about yet. It was nice to meet up with Coddy, Marine Boy and Paul D plus finding out where X-Ray was, if the weather improves I'll have another try on Monday. alun j.
I'm hoping to get out Mon........... if it is calm enough. Tempted to try over towards Barton for flatties inshore [ where the water is warmer ....... and more so if the forecast sun materializes !!]. All these negative reports could be good cause to try elsewhere......... and may be less boat traffic on a Bank Hol. over there than near Hengist. Head. Waiting to read reports from Weymouth today. TomBettle
Hoping to get out, ideally after Ling on Monday. Want to hit the Shambles, but reports are not great with a whole day being spent for a few vey small fish leaves me thinking better to do what I know and head offshore. I'm itching to hear Adam's final tally for the day. I chatted with him earlier and it seems the Shambles was proving distinctly lumpy and hard work, but he does have a surprise or two. Fingers crossed he will post shortly. Tom
