Adam F
Guys, In prep for Alderney at the weekend, my trusty Charter Special 1000 and my TLD15 came apart for a service. Both went back together fine, but the 1000 is a little 'graunchy' - I put this down to the rough bearing in the side plate that I put back in. Q's: 1.) Do I need to replace just this race or are their more - is so where are they? 2.) Where do I go to get them, and are there different qualities? Swainiac
Adam, when I did my Penn, I replaced the twp bearings either side of the spindle, and ny others that came out easilly. Have a look at the bearing, and get the number on the side casing, then take it to a bearing maunfacturer.....I used SCH Bearings in Budds Lane Industrial estate, Romsey. They were offf the shelf bearings, and cost a couple of squid. If you cant see the number on the casing, take the bearing to the desk, as I did with mine, and they take the measurements, and got them off the shelf. Hope this helps. duncan
Thats usefull Rich - I have been struggling with bearings for my Okuma TA50 so will go down the route you suggest. I was in contact with a Paul at an Okuma repair centre but he has 'disappeared' from the online/email world - and was struggling to reference a TA50 in any event. Swainiac
Duncan, if you take a bearing out and send it to me, or mail me the casing number, I'll grab some for you. Pennies, old chap, pennies!!!! Rich
Paul J
Ashley bearings just up the road from our club meeting venue can supply them PJ
Swainiac
PJ, can you get a price for Adams spec, and I'll get one from SCH, just to see if the price differs much. It will be easy to get a price for Shimano parts, then compare. Then we can get an idea of best supplier. Rich

markee_b
Somehwat different reel, but I bought a job lot of ceramic bearings for my beach reels (Abu6500), and have two sets spare...will also have two sets of the standard stainless bearings spare too once I get round to removing them. So, if you've got a 6500 and want some replacements for nought then first come first served

Adam F
Wow! Rich - are these for a 1000 Charter Special? If so can I have 1 set please? Ta Adam
Swainiac
Adam, check with Slam Dunc.....I'm not sure if these are for the Okuma reel he mentioned, or indedd the charter special. Whip your side plate off, to reveal the bearing in the handle area, this will have a small code stamped on the side. Do the same for the main spindle bearings, most multipliers have at least three to four bearings, and I must admit, they do look a common size, with handle bearings being slightly smaller. If they are the same size, I nabbed four of each size, so as long as Duncan doesnt mind, I'll bring the other two sizes to you on Sunday....if the sizes correspond of course. Failing that, get the codes off the bearing, ring SCH, and speak to the nice blokey on the other end, he found mine off the shelf, and I collected in 15 mins, great service!!!! They are open saturdays..I'm sorry, I cant collect today, as I'm comping out of Weymouth with Short Stuff. I can nab them tomorrow for you. The number for SCH is posted above somewhere. Cheers chap, Rich
duncan
for closure - thanks again Rich"! Bearings installed and the reel is transformed; don't know why I spent time trying to re do the old bearings as I did (clean in petrol, new oil etc) when
