Paul J Posted April 20, 2006 Report Posted April 20, 2006 i suspect i have blown the rectifier on my outboard as it does not seem to be charging. Does anyone know how to confirm that it's this and not the stator using a multimeter? I know the basic test is to check the battery volts are 13+ volts while running which it aint. Im not too savy on the meter settings and which wires to check. the rectifiers got 3 posts- 2 yellow wires from the stator and one red one to the switch i think any advice welcome Paul J Quote
Paul D Posted April 20, 2006 Report Posted April 20, 2006 Paul measure the voltage with the multimeter set to A/C volts between the two yellow wires - should read something with engine running = stator OK. The measure the voltage with multimeter set to DC volts between the red wire and earth ( ie. One prong on the rectifier pin connected to the red wire and one held to the metal casing ) - should read battery volts and then go up in voltage when engine is running. Quote
