duncan
out the blue I get an internal call at work - could I possibly be available for a function in Brighton Thursday; it's sea fishing on a cat out int eh channel but you don't need to be into fishing as everything's laid on with food drink advice tackle etc....................so the dilema is to go but be stuck using 'hire gear' or decline politely............. decisions decisions

"Oh Sir, I have a itch in my tooth and need two days off to see the dentist Sir" However having said that, if you do go and take your own state of the art stuff , some drunken herbert with a broom stick rod and cotton 'Cuttyhunk' line will haul in fish after fish whilst you stare at him with teeth a gnashing. duncan
thanks for those words of wisdom Mike - looks like I will put up with what I am given! it's not about actually catching anyway (I will check the mainline!) it's more about the enjoyment. Newboy
Where are you out with? I think there are only 3 cat in Brighton, if it is Seabreeze 3, that would be Terry. He's ok, a little lazy, needs to be reminded about changing marks when it's not catching. Lots of codlings and bream this time of year. There's a tackle hut (yes, a hut) on the pier, they do all sort of bait.
great white
What a bummer It must have taken ages to decide Work/Fish Fish/work Well as the best days work is not as good as a poor fishing day it could not have taken long. I get great enjoyment of seeing novices catch fish, even if it means a few extra tangles and a bit of coaching, etc On a charter boat at least the crew take on the other duties and you get a bit more time to enjoy the day quiz the skipper etc. I have found skippers to be very free with knowledge even when they know you have your own boat and are in fact a "Proper Angler". even more so when they know you fish well away from their area. I would go in a shot, enjoy the day out on a nice boat and try to catch a few fish and learn a few things. I am sure you are already booked to go Have a good trip Charlie

duncan
thanks Jack - had to get up early but at least the sun was shinning tackle was my worst nightmare - what the hell is all the plastic string they load the reels with???? drifting all day; worked about 7 wrecks overall we ended up with a good bag of cod, pollack, mackerel and seagulls (not me!) and apart from spending a fair time sortingout other peoples tangles and birdsnests..........from letting down!...........I have to say it was a great day. boat was great - big heavy cat - and made mincemeat of the relatively benign conditions mid channel. cruised at 17 knots. Noel and Nick made everyone really welcome and breakfast was all laid on etc - fish were all filleted down for us on the way back too! pleased to see all the codling returned alive, and many of the pollack too (and the sea gull!) sorry this note's not up the the crazy standard but I am rushing to pack...........probably th eonly person in teh UK to be flying to Spain for a long wekend with this weather forecast.........
