Hole Filling

Hi all.

I have just installed trim tabs. I had dolfinns on the o/b which seems to counteract with the tabs. so the plan is to do away with the dolfinns but what is the best way or what to fill the four bolt holes which are left on the outboard.

The body of your engine will be ally and can be welded. Just find a friendly engineering shop or proppeller repair shop and they should be able to do it for not to much money. All you will then have to do is paint the affected area with cellulose paint

Or find 4 suitably sized rubber gromits/bungs.

There are many manufacturers of epoxy putty. It is usualy a two part formula with the two pastes packed together but only becoming active when mixed by kneading together.

This mix when set, has the property of a fileable metal, push into the holes leaving enough protruding each side to ensure a permanent fixture and mould whilst still pliable into shallow domes. When set (2 to 6 hrs) sand to a smooth finish and spray paint with the appropriate colour.

Do you mean the 4 holes on the cavitation plate? Does it matter if it's not filled?

I woudl go for the welding option. I had mine done on my old Honda outboard and it is not expensive ( Cost me something like

thanks lads. all idea's taken onboard. will hunt round and try to get it welded will I havs to take the leg off regarding the electronic's??? when they start welding

That's the stuff I was talking about. I agree with Duncan it will do perfectly.

Rather than buy a big dollop I can give you a lump of similar stuff if your near Bournemouth.

Thanks lad's for all your imput I have found a contact who will weld the hole's up for a few pint's can't be fairer then that.
