I've got a 20 foot Ocquateau fitted with VHF, Fish Finder, GPS ( not a plotter ) the usual safety kit, which is fine for the Conwy area, the only traffic at sea is getting in and out of the marina, but when I get her down to Poole will I need other kit ? The Southampton boat shows coming up so planning on getting a Chart plotter, but if there is other "Stuff" that you recommend I would apreciate the advise.

A good chart plotter and card for the central English Channel.

You have a pretty capable boat so you may also want to ivnest in one of the local books of wrecks like "Dive Dorset". The other guys will suggest other books.

Also a chart for Poole Harbour as some parts can be pretty hairy as I know only too well.

Thanks guys your comments were in line with my thoughts, I plan on getting the Admiralty CD and paper chart for the area at the show,

Codfather mentioned long Anchor warp, currently got approx 120 foot what do you recommend ?

Also noted on another thread a comment on some one not showing flags ?

We appear to be the only ones taking precautions at sea, it must be worse around Poole with all the gin palace's, all money and no sense, I think this is one area of life we need more regulation.

For inshore fishing ie: upt to 5 miles off the average depth you are likely to fish will be 80-90 feet. There are places where you will find 120' and I know of a few that are 200' plus. Offshore the deepest I have fished from Poole is 270' (drifted not anchored). With a scope of at least 3:1 you need lots. Most of us carry a coil which is 220 metres.

Flags may have been our new club pennant or it may have been refering to an anchor black ball.

BTW I received you application form today. Will forward your details to our membership sec who will be in touch with more info.

I will update your forum status today

Welcome to the best small boat angling club on the South Coast smile.gif and possibly the UK blink.gif and maybe even the world tongue.gif

Ron,

To save your wife's delicate hands, have a browse on the forum about the different types of rope people use for anchoring. Cheapest isn't best (as I've found).

Good luck and welcome.
