Had my engine serviced today at Select Marine. Even got a discount as a club member! (Martin I need a new club membership card sometime as I did not get one when I renewed)

I also had Tony to look into an overheating warning that I got last time I went out. Apparantly there is some new strange weed floating around that looks like string and gets sucked into the water pumps and waterways and blocks! He has seen quite a few engines with this problem over the last few weeks. mad.gif

So keep clear of rafts of weed that you see!

In my case the problem seemed to have been that the impellor blades had gone soft at the tips and not making good pressure, could have been due to starting the engine before it was immeresed fully in water.

Paul J - Annual Open Comp sticker left with Tony and I think he will supply a prize if you approach him. smile.gif

didnt even know we get membership cards, i never got one dry.gif

We did do them one year as a club member volunteered to design and print at cost. He left last year and we haven't sourced a new volunteer ANYONE AVAILABLE

If someone has a bit of software (and time) and would design and print cards that would be a great help. The Club would obviously pay for any incurred costs

Some horrendous patches of weed around this summer. This patch was off the southern tip of Sark, and larger than a tennis court. Other times this summer, I've seen strips of water so full of weed, it's almost impossible to go through in a gap.

I had to have a diesel engine top-end rebuild once, following a blockage that I didn't notice quickly enough. Ok, that was probably a plastic bag over the intake, but weed can do it too!

Definitely worth getting a sea water strainer fitted, if you don't already have one.

The bad thing about weed rafts is that there's often other much nastier debris tangled up in them like bits of rope and trawl net. I avoid all the weed I see, yet I still average at least one bit of rope or net around my props every year. I've not been immobilised yet, but it wears the paint off the props which is a real pain cos they're alloy.

Same we don't have dorado in our waters,

We used to look for these and go paddy hopping over the other side of the pond.

anything floating used to have fish underneath

I wonder if that rule would apply over here?

Round Acapulco they have man made rafts floating above bloody great sea anchors to hold them in an area. The rafts accumulate weed and sea life and then the bigger fish. We used to troll the muppets as near as we could to them and get a strike most passes.
