TomBettle
Yesterday I handed over a new boat to a chap, his family and mate all of whom may well soon be on the scene as new club members. Really nice guys and they seemed extremely pleased with their boat. Part of our hand over is some proper tuition from a local sea school, as we were prepping the boat for the tuition we were discussing their experience and they anounced they had RYA level 2. Excellent, I thought, these guys will have no problem. HOWEVER On chatting further it seems they went for a bargain course that set them back just

On a training not I am just waiting for our provider to get back to me with dates then we shall have some of our members going through RYA Power boat level 2 Martin
plaicemat
Mind you, Tom, with all the news items recently about thefts from Cristchurch, I believe I would think twice before putting a new boat on a mooring there. But your point is well made and timely. Although I have done a course on a lovely smooth inland reservoir, mainly geared towards sailing safety boat, I am taking the course offered by the club to ensure I'm up to speed on the briny. It's all very different with tides and waves, not to mention navigation. On a reservoir, if you go far enough in the any direction, you strike land. Terry. Paul D
Terry, I wouldn't say Christchurch was any worst then Poole ( or anywhere else for that matter ) with regard to thefts. I can only recall two or three from Christchurch but as many from Poole and Lymington/Solent area.
plaicemat
Oh! My apologies to Christchurch. It just seemed that the most recent ones all came from that area. And, upon consideration, Poole is a damn sight bigger than Christchurch and has many more boats to target. Terry. toerag
Surely someone needs to inform the RYA that their courses aren't being taught properly??
great white
The RYA would be very interested all instructng should come under a recognised training center. and those and all equipment are inspected by the RYA annually. Even as the senior instructor at the Yacht Club it is difficult to run private training courses. Charlie
