Yesterday I handed over a new boat to a chap, his family and mate all of whom may well soon be on the scene as new club members.

Really nice guys and they seemed extremely pleased with their boat.

Part of our hand over is some proper tuition from a local sea school, as we were prepping the boat for the tuition we were discussing their experience and they anounced they had RYA level 2.

Excellent, I thought, these guys will have no problem.

HOWEVER

On chatting further it seems they went for a bargain course that set them back just

Mind you, Tom, with all the news items recently about thefts from Cristchurch, I believe I would think twice before putting a new boat on a mooring there. But your point is well made and timely. Although I have done a course on a lovely smooth inland reservoir, mainly geared towards sailing safety boat, I am taking the course offered by the club to ensure I'm up to speed on the briny. It's all very different with tides and waves, not to mention navigation. On a reservoir, if you go far enough in the any direction, you strike land.

Oh! My apologies to Christchurch. It just seemed that the most recent ones all came from that area. And, upon consideration, Poole is a damn sight bigger than Christchurch and has many more boats to target.
