alun j. Posted November 17, 2006 Report Posted November 17, 2006 After 3 frustrating months, I am unable to get the Lowrance 332C plotter to work properly . The first unit completely packed up after 6 hours use; its replacement couldn't find and hold position. A replacement antenna was no different. Last weekend the temperature sensor [ or connections] went and / or gave odd results [ as low as -11C !]..........and still no reliable GPS. The dealers I bought the boat from have been very helpful, trying all combinations to find and solve problem.........with no success. At this moment, they have rearranged their workshop rota and putting a new Garmin unit on for me. Thank You.........BHG-marine. I'm hoping to test it out on Sunday, as there seems to be a little gap in the windy weather coming through. Alun. Quote
great white Posted November 17, 2006 Report Posted November 17, 2006 Sorry to hear that Alun I had Lowrance on Great White and it worked fine even though I fitted it. In fact I was so Happy with it that I am still thinking on fitting it to my new boat. I know that plenty of the Members have Garmin kit and are happy with it, so I hope that works for you. duncan Posted November 17, 2006 Report Posted November 17, 2006 very strange - almost faultless performance from my older 15MT and new 3500C. I have heard that they have experienced issues with the smaller high powered duel function units - the ones with the DF transducers and the GPS modules. They are fine with the normal lower powered 'ducer but basically get a bit hot powering everything. 337DF or similar rings a bell. other than that ?????????? Quote
plaicemat Posted November 17, 2006 Report Posted November 17, 2006 I'm really surprised to hear of your problems, Alun. As you know, I've never had any problems with my 3500C and like them so much, I've bought a larger, dual function model. Could be it was just a Friday night model and needs replacing rather than repairing. Terry. Quote
alun j. Posted November 17, 2006 Author Report Posted November 17, 2006 Terry, Both the 'head' unit [ the screen part] and then the antenna were replaced with new ones from Silva......... and still didn't work properly; even the plugs were wobbly. I'll now have to re-learn all the buttons on the new Garmin. Give me a ring if you fancy a trip Sunday ......... late morning til dark. Alun. Quote
britboard Posted November 17, 2006 Report Posted November 17, 2006 Oh alun, you just give up to easy Don't understand that problem that you had, most annoying! i must say my 332c has been faultless its been abused and even dropped onto a concrete floor by my friend and it still keeps on ticking. great white Posted November 18, 2006 Report Posted November 18, 2006 If it is any compensation Alun I was speaking to Gordon recently, he changed from Lowrance to Garmin when he changed boats and is very pleased with his new setup I am sure it will be fun and a good excuse to be afloat learning how to operate the Garmin Charlie Quote
