Maverick Martin
Those with diesel powered boats, might be interested in this PETITION that is being collected to try and persuade HMG to mitigate the effects of losing cheap red diesel for private boats. Afishionado
No sour grapes, but on the same basis shouldn't there also be pressure brought to reduce the cost of petrol used in private pleasure boats? Mad Mike
Swainiac
I cant remember us ever having cheap petrol for boats Mike, but red has been around for yonks. I used to pay 17p per gallon for my tractor........look how things have changed!! Despite not running a diesel, I have signed up. They'll be taxing our dreams next for goodness sakes!! Mad Mike Mike Set one up then, its easy to do, then post it around some of the fishing sites and your away Don't know about you but I am getting sick to the back teeth with Brown and his taxing policies, I know its the eec that has done away with derrogation but you can't tell me this thief isn't rubbing his hands. gaffa
Martin, Can't agree Strongly Enough And Just dont mention the non payment of Pension Fund Conpensation or the proposed compulory Pension contributions he'll force everyone to make soon. Whats the betting those funds will go belly up as well . There I told you not to get me started !!!! Re the diesel oil issue How Long do you think it will be before he increases Biofuel tax to the non derrogated level without any pressure from the EEC. There's my proposed fish and chip shop empire out of the window Pete

Fugazi
Think back to the last fuel protests and how the impact of those made the Chancellor re-think his last proposed big fuel tax increase. We all need to start taking a bit more direct action, like our European neighbours, instead of just rolling over and paying up. great white
Not sure that a petition will carry much weight against the chance for the Chancellor to raise money to waste elsware But I have signed the petition. charlie
Swainiac
Charlie, your previous posting states that there will be no change of course re. the derogation, but that it is a matter of time before it becomes Law. i guess that means that basically, we are stuffed from the outset...........unless we bale out of the EEC, something that this Govt doesnt want to do. Perhaps direct action by boaters of Reds and white petrol powered vessels may have some bearing on how the Govt actually views how the voting public actually feel about this. Its a shame that every household doesnt have a boat to run, then perhaps a blockade of millions of craft in all harbours and waterways across the country would have an effect, just like the go slow on our motorways and major trunk roads did back in the late 90's and 2000. If we continue to pay up, they will continue to increase. Rich

Rich ...Would be easy to blockade Poole Harbour ....Portsmouth Harbour ...Plymouth Sound ...Weymouth In fact it would be very easy to blockade any of our major ports and harbours with maybe the exception of the mersey and Southampton water. It only takes a few small boats with the anchor down to cause a huge problem at a harbour entrance. great white
I am sure if we were telling the French what to charge they would be blockading ferry ports as they have done before I can not remember it happening this side of the Channel when brussels tell us what to charge. bootlegger
I'm afriaid that I agree with Martin and Charlie. The simple fact of the matter is that anyone who pays higher income tax, which in fact is most persons nowadays or who are self employed or professionals pay in tax either in the way of direct taxation or indirect taxatuion such as policy premium taxes, duty on fuel, fags etc, some 48p out of every
