Looks like I'm up to go out on Thurs. ........ so might be interested in fishing the comp.

Is there anyone who might like to join me on Gastronaught ??

Plan will be to go out of Lymington......... I've got a reserve venue in case the weather roughs up a bit, as some forecasts are suggesting.

What would suit best would be someone based nearer to Poole, so they could go and book us in, then come this way............. any takers ??

I know I'm going to regret it, but decided to give it a miss today. Got up early, ready to go, but a last minute check of the weather forecast gave F4-5 occasionally 6!! Other forecasts give 3-4. Little Rob's sea legs aren't too good when it gets to a 3 or more, and it's a long way to go (Lymington) just have have to come back in after an hour or two.

A tough call, but I'm going to lean on the side of caution.

Good luck to all that go out. I know it's going to be a good fishing day now.

Weather looks cr@p for the remainder of the week, so not sure when I will get out next. sad.gif

Will do some servicing on the engine and trailer instead.

I had been thinking that as we drove back from North Somerset and could see no sign of wind.

But when i called Humphrey he said even the Charter boats were returning early and he was about to give up due to the swell

Funny thing weather

we await the results

Hi Bob

Seems you did the best thing.

Went out to the Spoils ground from Poole and the anchor tripped twice due to the size of swells! sick.gif

No Cod but the fresh air was nice laugh.gif

Had a peaceful cup of coffee behind Brownsea Island, think Rob might have felt a little unwell today.

Bob,

You made a wise decision, we started at the car park and the swell was big enough to make some of the charter boats comment that they were more like "hospital ships" !! ( My crew member was not so good either ).

Only fished in worst conditions than that once before and it was worsening as we sat there, so decided to run for shelter.

Probably would have got away with fishing the Solent mind as it wasnt too bad in there at all ( Called Gordon and he said it was "a bit lumpy" - it was more like a millpond compared to around the corner rolleyes.gif .

Paul,

It was 'lumpy' in that area.........but did change a lot at different times through the day. It was worst Mid-morning, when the SW wind had freshend and blew straight up the Solent. When it went around a bit to the S, it smoothed off a bit.

As we didn't have much incentive to rush back, we stayed on till 4 and had a much softer ride back at about 13 kts. rather than the 5 or 6 I was expecting to have to cut down to.

A few other [non-comp] boats returning at same time; one did OK at Alum bay, a 20 lb. + cod and a reasonable bass.

We did stop at Alum Bay for about an hour on our way back to the Solent from endurance fishing at the Cod Park. I never had a bite on my cod bait and all Chris managed to catch was a dogfish while trying to tempt a channel whiting on mackerel, so I dont think you missed much Paul.

Then it started to get very uncomfortable yet again, to the point where I couldn
