Maverick Martin Posted January 4, 2007 Report Posted January 4, 2007 I have it on good authority that there are no angling stands (as promised) at the boat show. Also Warrior, Orkney and the like are not showing this year. The cost to exibitors is just to prohibitve for them I believe there is a warrior on the Honda stand but that is just hearsay Martin Quote
Manic Moore Posted January 4, 2007 Report Posted January 4, 2007 Which end of the hall is hearsay, or is that a Warrior Hearsay Quote
Newboy Posted January 4, 2007 Report Posted January 4, 2007 I think they only want the upmarket millionaire in the show and not the general public. Quote
djredrupp Posted January 4, 2007 Report Posted January 4, 2007 hey i think the millionaire jibe is a bit unfair... im 100% sure tom'll b there,,, and i dont see a jeaneau merry fisher selling for millions!! i agree slightly that it is un-angler-friendly,, but remember it is a BOAT show to primarily display and sell BOATS and BOAT EQUIPMENT!! Though it was always cool to see that gigantic tuna lure, and hook the size of my head at the old tackle stand imagine getting caught by that beast! Dan Quote
Maverick Martin Posted January 4, 2007 Author Report Posted January 4, 2007 Its not just tackle thats missing, there are no small boats suitable for Anglers use Southampton show is much more usefull to us lower classes but still primarily elitist Martin Quote
bootlegger Posted January 4, 2007 Report Posted January 4, 2007 I've been to the London Boat Show since it started to be held at Excel Centre three years ago, fortunately my gaff in London is only accross the Dock from the Excel and due to friends in low places I can get in for nought. The show has, due to it's location in London has been primarily of interest for mid range cruisers, although on the first holding they did have HMS London a type 42 moored up. Intially they did have stands for smaller boats such as Orkney, Warrior and Merry Fisher but over the last few years these have now given way to the entry level boats such as Landaus (a snip at Quote
Paul D Posted January 5, 2007 Report Posted January 5, 2007 I was actually searching out the posts from those who went last year as I am sure they were mostly disappointed ( or am I thinking of the "Go Fishing" show ?). Quote
Newboy Posted January 5, 2007 Report Posted January 5, 2007 (edited) ............. feeling totally inadequate. I can get that at home and costs bugger all. Edited January 5, 2007 by Newboy Quote
Afishionado Posted January 5, 2007 Report Posted January 5, 2007 All the 18' to 25' Pilot House's by various manufacturers are represented, which is why I am going. Normaly however I avoid any London trip/event. Mad Mike Quote
Shropfisher Posted January 5, 2007 Report Posted January 5, 2007 Its not just tackle thats missing, there are no small boats suitable for Anglers use Southampton show is much more usefull to us lower classes but still primarily elitist Martin Sorry guys but I disagree, I bought my boat at the London show 2 years ago ( and I did not spend millions ), and there was lots of choose, yes it covers a smaller space so fewer will attend, but I am told the biggies have been restricted on stand space to allow for more affordable stands. Last year there was the Jennies, QS, Ocq plus others I can't recall, so still a good day, if any one is going on Thursday, I will be in the Holiday Inn express on Wed night and will stand a beer to anyone saying Hi. duncan Posted January 5, 2007 Report Posted January 5, 2007 as Mike say's there are in fact a huge huge number of 20 - 26ft boats in the peche promenade manner - admittedly more of the cruiser rigged versions than the fisher in some cases (ie the Jeanneau 655 is the cruiser rig not pilot house. In fact many I hadn't heard of - Sea Kingdom for example and some red hot - New Antares 6. Choice choice choice. It's a really excellent opportunitiy to make direct comparisons - but quality showes pretty quickly........... Boat to lust after - Rhea 850 Boats to question - Arvor 34 (what's it's market????) Interesting boats - new baylinner 246 Beautiful boats (with fishing boat heritage) - Searay sundancer 355 (believe it or not) Best engineering - 'ladies' promoting F1 powerboating (may not be 'available' all show............ Jeanneau 925 looks nice too Quote
Bob F Posted January 5, 2007 Report Posted January 5, 2007 (edited) Pop any one of them on a trailer and whip it down to my place, please, Duncan. I'll pay you later if that's alright. I'm going to bed to dream... ...hope the misses doesn't interupt. Edited January 5, 2007 by Bob F Quote
endeavour boats Posted January 6, 2007 Report Posted January 6, 2007 Warrior are on the honda stand with the 175 and the pro angler. not many small boat builders there. Quote
djredrupp Posted January 6, 2007 Report Posted January 6, 2007 oh dear oh dear!!! just been at the boat show 2day, and the numbers of people compared to last year,, and even the exceptionally low 1st year at xcel,,, are XTREMELY low!!! there were no queus for any attractions, and the so calld 'family attractions', such as the oil change races were completely empty!! This is reall shocking,,, considering thatthis is the first weekend of the show,, a prime family time!! And also there seems to be a lot less small companies (like orkney who dont have their own stand,, but are displayed with honda). It seems that stand prices have left only the big companies (though strangely a handcream company is still there!) Oh dear!! Dan Quote
Newboy Posted January 7, 2007 Report Posted January 7, 2007 It seems that stand prices have left only the big companies (though strangely a handcream company is still there!) Maybe there're more money to be made in handcream than anything else...... Quote
