BigMac
Our main GPS/plotter on the boat is a Raytheon RC530 that is linked to a Raytheon RL70 radar. The problem I have is that the protective front screens on both units are slightly damaged and I would like to replace them. The plotter has lost some of its "sunproof" screen coating and the radar protective screen is a bit scratched. I've tried Raymarine, but their web site is almost unusable I reckon that you must be able to re-coat the plotter screen as you would a pair of glasses but dont know where, and really, I need a new protective screen for the radar. Anyone suggest anything? Al
TomBettle
Try contacting Matt at MES (Raymarine installers / dealers) on 01202 666066
Adam F
Hi Al, My guess it that they'll need to go back to Raymarine. I dont think the screens are repairable. My Garmin colour unit went like this last year - I dropped it back to Garmin who informed me (and pointed out the small print in the instructions) that whilst the screens are daylight viewable, they shouldnt be cleaned with any chemicals and shouldnt be touched with bare skin as this breaks down the screen coating. They actually replaced the whole unit (under warrenty as I pleaded ignorance). I got hold of a screen protector from the states, as I couldnt find them in the UK. In the US they make they them to suit every unit concievable. Hope this helps?
Nipper
so how would you clean theses screens ie a damp cloth my garmin book says use contack lens cleaner what do you think . mark b
Adam F
A damp lint free cloth. Yes, contact lens cleaner would be ideal - if its good enough for eyes, then I'm sure it will do a plotter screen. However if you go for the screen protector it solves all of these issues! Swainiac
Lardy boys prefer Stella to G&T's PJ, with saussage sarnies thrown in, as well. Surely to follow the retailers reccomendation is fine, as far as guarantee's are concerned. Rich
