Adam F Posted February 11, 2007 Report Posted February 11, 2007 Q: If I purchase a Garmin Plotter unit from the US, it will come with a US basemap. Does this mean it cant be used in the UK? If I pop in a UK Bluechart will the unit take the map from their and therefore work? Ta Adam Quote
Paul D Posted February 11, 2007 Report Posted February 11, 2007 A: No problem Adam, they actually come with a worldwide basemap. I bought mine from the States and works fine. ( Much cheaper at the moment as well ). I used boatfix ( www.boatfix.com ). Quote
Newboy Posted February 12, 2007 Report Posted February 12, 2007 My Navman came from the state and all I need was a english channel c map. Quote
Swainiac Posted February 12, 2007 Report Posted February 12, 2007 Adam, I'm sure ours was just a case of "Plug and Play" from canada if I recall. Dollar is around 189 ish to the pound, so reasonable, but not as good as it was a couple of weeks ago at 1.93 to the pound. Rich Quote
Adam F Posted February 12, 2007 Author Report Posted February 12, 2007 Hmmm, I was looking at the Garmin 2210c, but have since found this was developed for the US market only, the Worldwide equivelent is the 2010 or the 2110, both more expensive! Quote
oysterboats Posted February 12, 2007 Report Posted February 12, 2007 2010 very good price at the moment at mes ltd Quote
toerag Posted February 12, 2007 Report Posted February 12, 2007 The price on the 2006 and 2010 has dropped like a stone since the new 3000 series came out. The only advantage to the 3xxx ones is the networkability as far as I can see, and that's a waste of time when you need to see chart, sounder and radar at the same time. I have a 2006 (B&W) which was on the boat when I bought it - brilliant bit of kit, the only bad thing is the greyscale's not too useful for distinguishing which areas dry, and which areas are covered with 5m of water. I have 1300+ waypoints in mine!! Quote
Adam F Posted February 12, 2007 Author Report Posted February 12, 2007 I ended up with the 2010c - at a price that not even the US could beat - a little bit of an error on the dealers part, but fair play to him - he honoured the deal. Should be here in a few days so will let you know what I think! Quote
great white Posted February 13, 2007 Report Posted February 13, 2007 Hi adam Isn't that what Nipper has fitted? I was thinking of sticking with Lowrance Charlie Quote
Nipper Posted February 13, 2007 Report Posted February 13, 2007 adam we have the 2110c & a 340c ff which we found are very good we bought the g2 blue charts from the us along with the units. the charts covers the whole of the uk and ireland and the highway page is also in 3d and we can upgrade our charts and display as you said photos of a harbour but i don't think that garmin have released this tec yet . mark b Quote
Adam F Posted February 13, 2007 Author Report Posted February 13, 2007 They have, but not for the older models, only for the 2007, 4000 series units. I have ordered the 320c FF, but they have upgraded me FOC to the 340c - I would actually prefer the older model! I may look into getting the charts from the US - is the G2 better than the old ones? Find it a little strange that the US sells UK charts though! Quote
spNOam Posted February 13, 2007 Report Posted February 13, 2007 I was surprised to find they sell Arran sweaters in Malta....Fur coats in Cyprus...supply the demand I guess Quote
