Gnasher
As many of you know, Specimen Course angling is my main passion, and 5.30am this morning i was pulling myself out of my flea pit to tackle the Dorset Stour (not throop fishery!). It was pi$$ing down, wind howling, but i still made my morning trip anyway. I know most of you arn't slightly interested, but im writing this as i know some you have a keen coarse fishing interest. Anyway, fishing a bait in an unlikly area, i find myself lucky enough to land one of the rivers wackers!!!!!!!!! A chub of 8lb 4oz!!!!!!!!! I have sworn a mate that I wouldnt put the area and bait in print, but there should be a decent write up in the mags in the next few weeks, with some good pics!!!! I will try and include a pic on here if i can work out how my new p.c can add one. Dan p.s- I left my phone on the car roof on the way home and the things fell off sometime during the journey home, so if anyone tries to contact me on it, you will get nowhere!!!! alun j.
Well done Dan ........ a cracking fish.......from a murky looking river at the moment! A good bend in the rod....then no doubt you slipped it back. Now........what would I do with that in the kitchen dept.? Alun. No joke............ I regularly used to take chub from the R. Wye and turn them into fish suppers ......... a bit bony though! Because.......... as a teenager, on holiday in Germany, I got one , well over 6 lb. from the Danube and took it back to the Gasthaus where we were staying.... and the chef dished it up for us with a superb buttery sauce..... it went down a treat! Gnasher
it went back Alun, i would rather eat a wrass. haha If i email the pic to someone, can some one add it?
alun j.
And more likely to survive than most of the wrasse hauled up! In the kitchen............ pretty much in the same league..... only the chub is easier to prepare! Alun.

DommyBoy
Bruv that is a top result mate, if not a bit spawny! Absolute monster fish and regards to the 'secret section' of river where you caught it from i never in a million years thought they went that big there! Should win you a few awards i reckon! Gnasher
Dom, I knew they were there the phone has been busy today with angling journalists from the mail and times calling and trying to get a story. I still hushed up most of the info though. Its the biggest UK river Chub of the season and they think a better specimen than the british record as that was from a stillwater!! DommyBoy
Bloody hell mate thats amazing! Should have a few front cover exclusives coming your way, try and put a mention of Lonis AC in there somewhere for a bit of trade there way. Still shocked that you may have rocked the river record..... Cracking result mate well done, now see what the mags chuck your way! TomBettle
Absolutely clonking fish. What is the British Record now days? Been a very long time since I actively chub fished and managed 7lb 6oz out of a pit and 5 1/2 lb from the Oxfordshire Windrush, but your fish is simply incredible. Well done and I hope you get plenty of recognition for it! Tom
plaicemat
Nice to see the fish swim away, I should think. Where I salmon fish on the Border Esk, a few very big chub are caught every season on salmon gear and they are just thrown on the bank, being considered vermin. I have personally seen one over 9lbs just hurled in the bushes and when I remonstrated, was told my fortune in no short order. They believe there that the record could be broken every season if anybody fished for them. Terry.
DommyBoy
Current british Record is 9lb 2oz taken from a Stillwater near Wallingford in October 2006, but as dan said it is a real monster of the deep! Dom
Swainiac
Dan, absoluste cracker mate, top drawer. Stillwater fish are often stockies from fish farms, and I know the FF have been breeding huge amounts of chub in the test valley for introduction into still waters, so that fish is indeed a cracker. At that size, they look like batleships, a true monster, and not at all easy to catch. Rich PS I note that the water was probably coloured like coffee, so the fish probably stumbled upon the bait, and gave up dead easy, so perhaps not such a whopper!!!!!! Nice one m8
Mike Y
That is a cracking fish - I used to fish a lot for chub on the Stour at Canford but never got close to a monster such as that - well done. I can't wait to see the pictures.

Manic Moore
Dan You must be suffering from shell shock or PDSD if I was holding a fish that 99% of anglers will only dream of catching, you wouldn't get the smile off my face for a year Bloody brilliant mate, you must feel like a dog with 2 w*llies to clean

Gnasher
Rich, as you said, the water was chocolate brown, so who needs 2 worry about being discreet? BigMac
Thats a hell of a chub Dan, Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!! Having spent more time in the pursuit of large freshwater fish than I'm willing to admit to, I know how hard some of those fish can be to catch. Once again mate, well done Al
