Paul D
Funny you mention that farm Kam, I was behind a "New Forest Barrumundi" van only yesterday and wondered what they did exactly,
Wedger
As far as I know they are just farming for the table but it would be interesting if the Environment Agency would allow development of an enclosed fishery. A special licence from DEFRA required for exotic species though.

Newboy
Funny you mention that farm Kam, I was behind a "New Forest Barrumundi" van only yesterday and wondered what they did exactly, I remembered reading about it a couple of years ago in the Echo, apparently they grow fast and are very tasty. Wouldn't mind plugging for one on light gear.

Gnasher
i was out side the hq in Lymington (on gordleton mill industrial estate) the otherday and was trying to work out what was going on. I think they supply fish all over the UK as a food source.

Afishionado
The Icelandic guy joined in for a while and as such I did not at first realise that he was more than just another member. This however is a blatant advert. It does not matter a jot to me whether it is Antipodean or Andalusian it is still BLATANT advertising and as such against the club web site rules. Please remove it. Afishionado
I thought it's fishing related ...... but that's just me. My arse is fishing related, but you wouldn't want to see an advert for it. If we allow outsiders to join our club simply as a way of freeby advertising for their product we could end up with a forum that is cluttered with thinly disguised adverts. There is a principal at stake here. The club rules say no commercial advertising in the forum. THATS IT END OF SUBJECT Wheter someone doesn't mind it or thinks it is 'fishing related' is not the point. Our forums are for us not cheapskate advertising. As I said if the guy wants to advertise to us let him bloody well pay for an advert. I feel very strongly about this and if the advert, for that is what it is, is not removed PDQ I will resign from the club. Mike
Wedger
Do you mean they need a licence for allowing angler to fish for them but not farming for them for the table? No. They would need a licence from DEFRA to hold exotic species commercially for what ever reason. They Would need a section 30 consent from the Environment Agency to move them live to stock into any water that was not a CEFAS registered fish farm. The receiving site of what ever type would of course, also need an exotic species licence. They would only be allowed to hold them in fully enclosed waters, farm or fishery, to prevent speading into the wild. The anglers would simply need their normal rod licence from the Environment Agency to fish for them and whatever permit neccesary from the fishery owners. Afishionado
Trevor, in your opinion would they survive in British rivers? And I am slightly confused are there two species of B'mundys, a sea fish and a fresh water fish? Mad Mike
alun j.
Mike. Barramundi are freshwater fish that migrate to estuaries to spawn; the eggs need brackish water to develop. Alun.

great white
Blimey that went on a bit IMHO I do not think there was much need for the last throw in comment "taking the action that should have been taken earlier" Mike I believe the Admin team do a great job overseeing the content of an excellent and very busy forum, If the odd one slips through and then gets amended there is no need to drag it on. I am sure the new committee would welcome help, more than criticism. Charlie
