Poole Harbour Charges

Can someone please explain the following

 

I was on the Poole Harbour web site to print off the application for Harbour dues.

 

This was fine and the charges for Harbour Dues are as follows for 2007;

Per day -

Why do you need to pay harbour dues?? You dont moor in the harbour do you?

 

When you pay your fee for launching at Baiter it covers, car parking, launching and harbour dues.

the top set of figures you got there is what the marinas charge visiting boats for example boats from southampton because they do not have harbour dues.

Andy keeps his boat on the rack at Cobbs.He pays annual Harbour dues.and they have inspecters who check for the licence disc.If you havent paid,you get a notice on your boat... jack

I got charged the top set...........but only 'cos I didn't know about the second!

 

Sam - does this mean a boat from Poole gets a discount on your normal charges then? If so I reckon I am owed a fair bit......

Following my post on the forum I sent an email to the Harbour Master, here is the reply I received today;

 

Good morning Mr Samuel,

 

Thank you for your query about the rate for Harbour Dues.

I have checked the site and I have seen your problem. The confusion is due the application form giving rates with VAT inclusive, for convenience, but the published schedule of charges gives the rates as we calculate them, net, with no mention of VAT, hence the confusion.

The rate on the application form is the correct rate (gross).

Our rates are calculated net of VAT as we are, like any other business, merely tax collectors for the VAT and it does not signify in our profit and loss account.

My apologies for the omission and thanks for drawing this to our attention. The site will be amended.

So the answer is lack of VAT on one set of prices.

I don't launch at Baiter any more and haven't for some time, I am fortunate to be able to launch from the RNLI college. free of charge.

So have to pay for the Harbour Dues.

PHC ensure that all boats using the Harbour are charged and should pay Harbour Dues

 

They are charged as a daily charge for short stay visitors and annually for berth or mooring holders.

 

Duncan you will have paid annual fee and if you visit a marina in Poole should not be charged again, if you display the sticker that is all the evidence you need that you have paid.

 

according to PHC this fee is used to finance the operation of the harbour and is charged regardless of if you are just tied to a pontoon or spending the day moving around the harbour.

 

The daily fee we have to charge for this is about 30% of the berthing fee for overnight visitors and is not usually well received.

My point was that when I stay at Dolphin they never ask if I am a Poole paid boat!

thats because duncan when we click on your boat it will tell us were you are from so we do not need to ask
