Rob
I fished Saturday on the Ledge and was lucky to not have too much of a problem retreiving my anchor though I thought for a minute it was stuck fast. Can I trip a Danforth style anchor? I am assuming not as you can't gurantee which way up it will settle unless I fix it one way? Last question - how many normal 3mm wide zip ties do you usually use - to save me time testing my pulling power!!?!!?

Ive used mine on loads of times in the ledge rocks and not lost one yet. Mine is fixed with the chain on the opposit side to the grip. 2. normally 2 cable ties, but ive changed to one, makes breaking out much easier. One will also be strong enough to hold you in a decent tide. Only downside to using one, is that it may trip every time you motor out, but whats the cost of a cable tie? About 10p me thinks Coddy- I drilled a hole, it takes a while, but you will get through in the end! Edited April 30, 2007 by Gnasher
Coddy
Hi Unless you weld a fixing point on the base of the anchor I don't think you will be able to set up a "tripping" method on a Danforth. However, what you could do is tie a small rope (8mm or less) to the base of the anchor and a bouy at the other end, if it becomes stuck all you have to do is motor to the bouy and lift it upfrom this point. your rope length needs to be long enough to allow for a various of depths. Re cable ties, I use x2 on a bruce look-a-like, for my Warrior 165 with a 5kg ancho with no problems. Coddy
toerag
Some danforths have a bar in between the 'triping palms' at the base of the flukes - you can connect to this. My 'found on a beach' danforth didn't have one, so I couldn't trip it. I've since got myself a bruce and use a single medium cable tie wrapped twice through the chain & hole in the stock. They are good for WAFI's to anchor up to in Studalnd sand but not too good in rocks and snaggey areas. Some of the local chandlers are extortionate in their pricing. Mad Mike
