Rob
I am heading out of Poole tomorrow - hoping to launch by 10 If anyone wants to buddy please feel free to post here, PM or email me. I was thinking of heading over to Poole patch for bream and ray. Having never targeted ray before advice and any numbers would be most welcome e.g. what should I be looking for? If anywhere else might be productive I am open to ideas. Please bear in mind I am 16ft open so 20 mile wreck is a little optimistic!! Sinbad
Well, I suppose if you are on the patches, then Xray wouldnt be too far or even southbourne rough. I'm no expert, but a filet chunk or round of mackerel , single hook, just nicked through the edge (not impaled) 40-50lb trace and fairly short (2-3ft), so its hard on the bottom would be my choice. alun j.
I was on the Rough [ briefly] yesterday together with 4 or 5 charters. The area is packed 'solid' with little bream. A good sign for next [ and subsequent years] but at the mo. a bait in the water is stripped in a minute or two! I use 'bigger' hooks [ 1 or 1/0 ]; although you miss most fish, those you hook are 'lip hooked' and easy to return..........and you don't miss the bigger ones... ..............but I had to go to some other favoured spots for those! Lovely day out though. Alun.
Rob
Alun - yes nice day out - but not a sniff of anything fishy. We sat on Poole patch for a couple of hours - nothing! Moved to near Bournemouth pier, whilst combing for some features we looked up and had at least a dozen ZapCats heading for us! So we decided to fish of Branksome Chine for the last hour. Again nothing. Maybe I should have chased the mullet I saw in the Holes Bay as we launched! Rob
Nipper
hi rob we fished swanage and had 15/20 bream 20/30 mackerel and three smooth hounds and we was only out for the morning as you said lovey morning the sea was like a millpond when we went out the only problem we had was with the engine i thought it was leaking oil. as i could see a slick behind the boat at anchor and it was only serviced on monday so when we got back to baiter park we took the cowling off and found the engineer had not put the oil filler cap back on so the engine is now coated in oil and i will be ringing him in the morning oh and he left some bolts loose on the top of the engine not a very good service as it cost me
Rob
I would be very interested in where those smoothies were, I could fancy that next week if I can get out? I am now going to start fishing these areas more as I now will be launching at Poole RNLI instead of Christchurch. Don't like the sound of that engine service, no excuse for that! If ever you need a hand out there I will be listening to channel 6 call sign JoJo. Question: Can you legally make a general call to PBSBAC memebers over channel 6 or do we have to call a specific boat? As I didn't know who was out yesterday and could have done with some friends!! Maverick Martin
Rob A general call on ch6 (clubs preferred working channel) for "any poole bay small boats" is quite in order and will hopefully get you a response if anybody's listening that is Martin
Nipper
spoke to the engineer that serviced our engine today and he was very sorry that he forgot to put to filler cap back on and he said he will be around in the week to clean the engine and next years sevice is foc well happy with that thank you . mark b
