Member Removed
well i wanted to go out sunday daytime but our mate had the idea of a night trip. unfortunately he was a bit nervous in the dark and reluctant to anchor at all so the best we could do was drift around a few marks that we roughly knew because the tide was slack te drifts were slow. we picked up a load of lsd west of hengistbury groyne a load of small pout and one larger one of a pound or so. odd mackeral,a solitary garfish, ballan of around two pound,a few bream east of the groyne bout a mile out. then suddenly just after sunrise i hit into something that i thought was a bass or bigger than a bream.i had my gear set really light 8lb rod. after a couple id runs a 3 lb bream comes aboard. that was a good way to finish . my m,ates got the photo on his phone ill get it off him to post andy
Maverick Martin
Hi Andy Nice result with a good fish to cap it off. Your mate is right to be a little dubious about night fishing it can be a little nerve racking. Everything at night looks and could be worse than during daylight. Time will build his confidence and then he wil hopefully feel more at ease with night fishing. Martin
great white
Hi what a nice fish, not usual to catch them in the dark so I presume it may have been first light. As you say night fishing is a whole new game, and one not to be entered into lightly you are probably safer anchoring inshore than drifting when you may drift over pot buoys etc My advice would be build up experiance with day trips and when you venture out to fish at night go out in daylight and have a good look around and set the anchor before darkness comes. Stay safe Charlie
Afishionado
Yes night fishing can seem very spooky when you first do it. I often have a night session around the area you mention and providing you make the normal sensible plan there is nothing to fear anchoring up there. As a thought to be developed how about arranging a night sesh' one weekend with us as a buddy boat and we can chat on Ch 6 and tell each other ghost stories Actually there are some magical moments that you will never forget when night fishing. A thunderstorm drifting past out to sea like an overture of the gods, a full moon with it's light reflecting back off the white cliffs of Ballard and making it so light that I could almost read the print on the paper wrapping the rag worm, and best of all the sun rising and the first warming rays reaching out to you. great white
Mike What I like after a good all night fishing session on the boat. Is the slow brightening of the sky from the East and the gradual increased awarness of the surroundings just before dawn. It make the return home with tired skipper and crew so much easier in the light Charlie

Afishionado
oh by the way can i convert my manual start mercury to elec? The accurate answer to this is yes , but the practical answer is no . If you could source all the parts fine. But the cost is outrageous unless you are lucky enough to find a mechanicaly knaquered electric going cheap. Newboy
If your engine takes a fair amount of elbow power to start it, converting it to elec start won't make it easier to start ( apart from you don't have to pull it yourself), if there's never any problems, then just leave it as it is.
