Coddy Posted September 22, 2007 Report Posted September 22, 2007 See this report on the BBC news http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/hampshi...set/3173087.stm Seems a bit OTT to me Coddy Quote
gaffa Posted September 22, 2007 Report Posted September 22, 2007 Who uses a balloon float and an 80 pound rod for mackeral fishing? How do you catch cockles from a boat in the Poole area There is an underlying smell of something fishy here PeteG Quote
Maverick Martin Posted September 22, 2007 Report Posted September 22, 2007 Also out of date, that report was dated 2003 and the fish was caught by a commercial fisherman although he was angling Martin Quote
jack Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 I really must try fishing for mackerel with a balloon float.perhaps that's where I am going wrong. jack Quote
Manic Moore Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 Smells more like bull poo to me Quote
corky Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 The Baileys are a well known fishing family in poole, well known for spending alot of time in the pub ! Sounds to me like a story old man Bailey would tell to a tourist or the like just for a laugh and a wind up. However in defence of the accuracy of the story cockle fishing from a boat in the harbour is something they definatley do well. Imagine a basket made from wire on a long pole that you drag through soft mud (needs alot of strengh so never offer to armwrestle a Bailey) and bear in mind the water is only two or three feet deep on a lot of cockle beds in the harbour. Its traditionaly how it used to be done ! Quote
great white Posted September 24, 2007 Report Posted September 24, 2007 If they fish with 80lb gear on balloons for mackeral I wonder what they use when not using "Micky Mouse " Gear Fighting chair and 130lb gear for doggies and whiting Smells of somthing a bit more Farm like than fishy Charlie Quote
