alun j.
........and I'll add to that sample........ similarly, the 4 I've caught recently were stuffed with crabs and a few fish [and one whelk and limpet in one]. From a 17 lber down to a 4 lber, much the same........just the bigger ones had more, and bigger, fish in them. Good luck with the live\deadbait technique. Could next Tues. be the next time to try?? great white
Nice one James Thanks for sharing that information we used to deliberatly fish for pout with a small baited hook above the main hooks [like a hair rig.] The problem was that the rod tip kept rattling away and eventually stoped so you wind in to find you have been fishing with a doggie or 2lb pout as live bait Now there are more conger than cod I am sure you would get a few of those, they love pout Charlie

Have to try it your way Steve
Gnasher
Steve, the small baited hook below the larger one is the usual way to do it when fishing like this but its worth trialing Charlies way, just to see what works best for you. Remember though, that the longer the 'hair' the longer the snood needs to be and the shorter the hair, the shorter the snood, etc. This will help maximise the hooking properties of the rig. It's just the same as carp fishing really. But.... with the amout of cod getting caught on squid, i wouldn't see the point of changing as more fish have been landed in the 1st couple of weeks of the season so far than pretty much the whole of last winter. Fishing a live may be a good option when they start feeding hard on sprats though. Edited November 29, 2007 by Gnasher
