Used prices - Warrior 165

Hi Andrew,

The prices you have seen are typical. Look carefully and take your time, you will have a good choice - but the old adage, you get what you pay for is true often - I would bet the 11k boat is older, not fitted out as well etc, etc as the 13k boat.

I had a MkII 165 for 3 years, now have a 175. The 75hp is the best engine choice by far, the 60hp can struggle a little. Etecs are fantastic.

As for the coloured hulls - I had the blue one. Look very nice, but they scratch very easily and are hard to touch up. I now have a white hull which doesnt show at all. You choice - bit like black cars really!!

Try and get as many extra's as possible. A decent plotter / Fishfinder is worth a lot - you'll be surprised how much you can spend fitting a boat out. Also things like canopy, SS radar arch, bait rails etc are often areas owners skimp on and cost a fortune to retro-fit from Warrior.

Hi Adam

Thanks for your advice.

You have confirmed what I was thinking really.

How do you like your 175?

I know it is only 1 ft longer, but I believe it is a totally different animal altogether?

I was initially thinking of taking the plunge & going straight for a 175 & would be interested in your opinion given the fact that you have had both a 165 & 175.

Realistically, I would be fishing on my own or prefferably to buddy up with any members who wanted to crew & help out with cost of fuel, bait etc.

I intend to offer to crew/contribute to costs & come down in a few weeks (It's my son's B'day, my B'day & the FPO's B'day over the next 3 weeks - Maybe she can buy me a boat for my B'day!!)

Cheers for your help,

Andrew

Hi Andrew,

Please take great note of the safety equipment offered on any second-hand boat. Many owners "carry" the gear onto their next boat, and unless they're giving up completely, you might find the safety gear inadequate.

The reason I'm suggesting this is that you might be buying a great boat package, but it might leave you and your crew exposed from a personal safety perspective, and you may will need to spend more money to get the safety gear up to spec, and depending on the sort of range you would like to cover, this cost can go up.

Check out some of the posts in the "Safety" forum, and prices in online chandlers etc.

If you would like some help in determining what you might need and why, the RNLI provides a free, confidential, objective and personalised Safety Equipment Advisory Check for small boat owners, and I have performed a large number of these for club members. If you join the club, I would be delighted to help you out on a visit to Poole, or if you decide not to join, contact the RNLI, and they would be pleased to arrange a check for you at your convenience.

Don`t forget about the trailer. sad.gif

these are another costly part of the maintenence schedule. A 3yr old trailer that has not been looked after properly will cost a small fortune to get into shape!!

good luck in finding one, i also have a 165 with a 60 etec and am very happy with it.
