Hi lads, havent been on here for a while now, been busy with a new job and currently recovering from a knee op, hence this question.

I have the warior 165 which at my request had no helm seats fitted (wanted maximum room for fishing) to try and take some of the strain off my knees i want to fit a pedestal seat. are these easy to fit and is there anything i should know not to do.

cheers

Hi Paul

As you are fitting this after new purchase I am assuming, I would ring Paul at Warrior and ask his advice.

If not a new boat, I would make a marine ply disc slightly larger than the base plate of the pedistal. Then glass it onto the floor.

You can then screw the base plate to the ply disc without any worry of going through the floor with screws.

I would use blind nuts/fixings on the underside of the ply disc so that the screws are already there for fitting the pedestal. Look here for what I mean under Marine http://www.bighead.co.uk/

Hope this helps

Coddy's idea is great, but I wouldn't trust screws to hold a pedestal down - there's a lot of leverage created when you grab it to stop yourself falling over. Take Coddys idea of a disc, but put countersunk bolts and washers up through it to bolt the pedestal onto before glassing it down. I dunno how you stop the bolts from turning without getting to the heads though.

Hi

I did mean nuts and bolts and not wood screws unsure.gif

This is a section from the web site listed above which should resolve the nut fixing problem:

"The BigHead range of 316S11 stainless steel marine fasteners makes the installation of immensely strong fastening points, inside or outside any boat or yacht hull or superstructure, a quick and simple task. The specially selected high-strength BigBond adhesives range completes the job in minutes, by bonding the fasteners instantly and permanently to plastics, GRP, composites, steel, alloys and wood."

I had to take the pedestal of my old Warrior 195 once. It was screw fixed direct throught the glass and into the ply underneath. Warrior also used Sikaflex to stick the pedestal in place. The screws came out easily but the sikaflex stuck fast. Pulled and pulled with the result being I ripped off the gel coat trying to remove it.

So I guess if the 165 is put together the same as the 195 glue and screw is the answer but a phone call to Warrior wouldn't be amiss. They are really approachable and helpfull people. Please mention our club if you do phone them

Cheers

If you are fitting a plywood pad on the deck I have loads of the fixings used by boatbuilders instead of nuts

they are fitted under the pad and have spikes that cut into the ply and prevent turning as the machine screw fixings are tightened.
