Adam F Posted March 19, 2008 Report Posted March 19, 2008 I thought I'd start a thread on this as its not something I know a whole load about. Mike F got me thinking on the last reply to the Orkeny 520 thread. I notice the Orkney 520 is a 'C', as its my current boat a Warrior 175, also intestrestingly enough is our new intended replacement - a Aquafish 23. So - what does it all mean? Is it important? How comes so much difference between a 400kg 16' Orkney and a 2.5T 23' Aquafish?? Quote
Mike Fox Posted March 19, 2008 Report Posted March 19, 2008 Hi Adam, There was a lengthy post about this last year. See: http://www.pbsbac.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=6229 Lots of implications outside comments here. Another good discusion topic! Regards, Mike Quote
Adam F Posted March 20, 2008 Author Report Posted March 20, 2008 Thanks Mike - I forgot about that thread. How this then: Both of these boats are Cat C Doesnt make sense to me.... Quote
duncan Posted March 20, 2008 Report Posted March 20, 2008 well - as the top one has many design features in common with boat's life boats it makes sense to me! the debate as to whether manufacturers are wrong (misleading) in taking an easy option and going for a lower category than they might be able to achieve for their craft is an ongoing one - personally little comfort in a number and believe C & B have little practical differential (both can easily find themselves struggling in conditions that could happen in waters within their designation - I have fallen into holes off Peveril that have given huge cause for concern!). both of the craft you picture will survive conditions that you would not knowingly, or willingly, set out to be in - by a factor! that said I think I would go for the lower one given a choice............ toerag Posted March 31, 2008 Report Posted March 31, 2008 Adam - what were your other shortlisted vessels out of interest? I think she'll work really well with the D3 190. Are Aquafish hulls moulded to 'seafish' or COP standards? Quote
