Member Removed
I have noticed a few on here have ETECs. Mine is currently being repaired and serviced. Last time out mine let me down, but luckily managed to get a tow to the slip. It turned out to be the high pressure fuel pump (electical, injector pump) failed... It has been serviced (first, 3 years) at the same time, and have been warned that I will not see much change from
Manic Moore
Dale I have an Etec 75 but running out the fuel used to be some thing they did with 2 stroke carb models. I believe this was as the fuel evaporated and left too much oil in the carb, this in effect made the start up mixture too lean so could theoretically damage the engine. Do you know what caused the failure on yours? Was it something that could have been avoided? Have you been pleased so far and now joining that ever increasing number of Etec fans. (mind you after that bill your wallet is not going to be!) Gordon

I am very pleased with the engine, perfect for my usage, and have found it extremely responsive , apart from the obvious I will report back here on the pump failure prognosis... Paul J
Im supposed to get my 300 hour service this week. It will be done at around 260 hours so hopefully any problems will be covered PJ
Paul D
I leave my tank connected and do nothing. No problems to date ( 2 years in now ). The design of the fuel tank and fuel system is such that it is not vented to the air, so I assume there is no problem ?
Member Removed
Picked it up today, feel poor now It was the whole fuel pump including vapour seperator Engine readout makes interesting reading, it has 124 hours on it. Talked to the engineer and he stripped the old pump and said there was no water damage, was drawing current, but could not be stripped down any further as it was a sealed unit... Taking it out breaming tomorrow and Friday Fingers crossed
Manic Moore
Is it over the 3 years? I think I might raise a bit of a fuss especially as its such low hours. Tell them you used to have a honda that had a 5 year warrantee etc etc. The worst they can say is no, at best you might get some sort of jesture. (hopefully not the victory one)
Paul J
It should be covered if it's less than 3 years or 300 hours PJ
Paul J
I do remember Mike at South Coast outboards mention that they didn't like running out of fuel for some reason-i'll make further enquiries If it is more than 3years old you have not done many hours ( least compared to me) have you had it laid up for long periods? PJ
Paul D
Spot on PJ - Mike mentioned the same to me and now I think of it I seem to recall he said it was the fuel pump that suffered. ( Probably a very good reason NOT to run until the fuel is empty. - This takes a while though as mine run all the way from Wick to Blackberry Island with the fuel pipe disconnected by accident ). Out of interest what did you used to do between trips ?

charlieannear
I'm reading this with interest! You think you've got problems?!
Paul D
Hood retaining clips - yes - broke both mine and had changed under warranty. ( One broke and the stress on the olther one caused it to break ). Towing/tilt bracket is way too stiff to turn - Given up on that one. Apart from that has been fine.
