charlieannear
So, what sort of rigs should I be making up for fishing at Burnham? Please bear in mind that I am a Fishing Numpty and need to be told the basics including hook and line size!
plaicemat
Last year I used a standard pennel rig on a running ledger, short trace to keep the bait on the bottom, 30lb hook trace and size 5/0 hook fished uptide with a wire grip lead. Seemed to work for me; KISS. I also used a similar rig fished downtide (without the griplead) which seemed equally effective if cast well away from the boat because of the shallow water. At one stage we were about 2 miles out in 9ft of water! Terry.
mw
Any rig thats on the sea bed, that the fish can smell will catch fish if they cant smell it they cant find it cause they sure cant see it lug used to be a killer when i fish there along time ago my mates used mackerel with pilcherd oil tripped over it for thornbacks mark w
Adam F
Much like Terry for me. Uptiding works slightly better than casting downtide. However I just use my 7' downtide rods. 6oz grip lead, running ledger and a 2/3' 30lb snood. 3/0 fine wire hook and squid / rag / lug bait. The best tip I can give it change you baits every 10 mins max. The coffee water means smell is king!
great white
Uptiding 3-4 ft traces pennel 4/0 Plenty of bait Lug/Rag and squid cocktails Plain mackeral Changed regular in quiet times Bought us over 40 Thornbacks two years ago on Maverick at Hinkley point The boats nearer the river were targeting Cod Tight lines Charlie
