Gnasher
Now i have my Keyhaven slip pass, i plan not to really do much fishing out of xchurch as i hope to enjoy targeting new fishing grounds. The only trouble is, i have marks passed the needles, and others such as the nearby bass marks, but does anyone have any solent areas that i can pop out of Keyhaven and try? E.g, any numbers for areas off milford shingle, or areas towards totland bay that will give smoothys or Ray, or the like(mixed light tackle species). I also fancy motoring the other way towards beaulie, with my target for the year, a club record stinger , so any numbers available. I have plenty of christchurch bay numbers, and i could trade one or two for some decent solent marks. PM if you can help Dan Edited April 17, 2008 by Gnasher
Adam F
Dan, Are you on the Solent Fishing forum? If not register on their. The guys have quite a bit of help they can give for up that end. Gnasher
PS: I'm useless - still have your anchors here! haha, no worries about that mate, i'l just be greatful when ever they arrive. A club meet some time mate. Adam, i browsed the forum a couple of times, but i do feel a bit of a trator using another site, and also because the fact that i would think my 1st post asking to nick marks would be a bit brazen. I will persivere on here for a while, but if nothing happens in a week or so, i'l try a post on there. But, your stinger record does look tempting though
alun j.
Dan, Being at the eastern end of our patch, I dip into Solent-Guide and post a few catches. My advice is to post and chat.........there are some friendly fishy friends over there too!! [but not as keen and vocal as us!!] Offer to join in a trip or two and several will volunteer help and\or offer a space. Alun.

PM if you can help Dan Dan if you are in the solent, keep a look out for a groups of black (well black and white) gulls sitting in the water, if in time, you can pick up free cuttle fish. Swainiac
Dan, 'ello matey.........still have my moby number old fruit?? Give me a bell at some stage, will pass on the info I have. Adams Stinger came from a general area where they group up to feed, but we were too far out to target the biggies......you have to be confident to get really close and shallow for the monsters that move in to feed during the warmer afternoons and evenings. When the commercials are netting cuttles, plenty spill out, and as Kam rightly states, if you see a group of gulls floating and pecking the water, they are eating the discarded cuttles, or the ones that have died post mating. Its not difficult to collect up a whole years worth of bait in a single trip. Bass.......a pretty decent mark for small bass is the bank off Lepe, at right angles to the shore, bang on a small ball weight, and bounce a worm or small shad over the bank and you'll be in for some sport there. Plaice also sit inside the bay on the sand/gravel mix there. Further down towards the point at Lepe, there is a mini tide rip with the confluence, (did I just make that word up???), of tide, and the bass get round the pilings in the water there. If you look towards the shore, past these pilings, there is a private beach, part of Cadland estate I think, and you can clearly see the barbed wire fence there........directly in front of you is a gravel bank, which has historically produced plenty of flounder, and some Thornies.....nothing huge though. The British boat caught sole record was taken from inside the Solent, not a squillion miles from the mouth of Beaulieau River, but its a very specific mark that is generally hosting the record holders boat in the telling time......which isnt when sole are being taken off Taddiford Commercials are doing very well for decent Bass in the Sconce area......bear this one in mind. Also try a live sandeel just off the shore at the end of Hurst. Enough wibbling already....bell me later dude, I'll give the decent stinger mark......only if I can join you. Gnasher
Rich, pm me your number again and i'l call you. Alun, It is about 70quid to launch for a year, but there is quite a bit of free parking there. Maybe 30 cars or so, and its along side the harbour wall. There is also a large NFDC car park there to. great white
Nice to hear that you are planning some exploring to the East end of Club waters, and are targeting one of the Club records. We wish you luck in your quest, a little bit of which always seems handy in our chosen hobby. My info on stinger fishing is to pick a warm period, fish in the shallows with a flooding tide bringing warm water in over the Sun Baked hot mudlands. Large ragworm baits used to be favorites. That said the biggest one I ever had onboard [34lb] was caught by Wendy when fishing for thornbacks off of Hayling Island with mackeral So what does that tell you? We too are hoping to fish new grounds for us this season, looking for a few PB's and maybe stretching a couple of Club records. Very Tight lines Charlie

great white
Just shows that we can not base all successes on the theories, planning and preperations. some times its just down to luck. and at the moment getting some decent weather to get afloat in Charlie

Gnasher, Where abouts is the free parking at Keyhaven? I parked in the car park behing the boat yard / club house and that's pay and display, or do you get a car park pass when you pay for a years launch pass? Fugazi
I've often thought about trying to find some free parking near Mudeford and walking back to the slip. Mark, Expect a long walk then! We always used to do this, but a couple of years ago Christchurch council decided they were loosing too much revenue. To resolve the problem they double yellow lined every road within a one mile radius of the Quay and raised the daily parking fees on the quay accordingly to maximise there opportunity. We now have to park in a friend
Gnasher
Oh Gordon, just how wrong u are my friend! I know where the free parking is that is only 30 seconds from the road into the quay(with no time restrictions), meaning only a 3 or 4 minute walk to the boat Only space for 6 cars, so i'm afraid i'm hushing it up I don't think i've paid for carparking at mudeford in 3 years or so Edited April 23, 2008 by Gnasher
