Swainiac
Guys, this coming weekend is one of my working weekends at school, I normally take six lads fishing, concentrating on freshwater lakes, either in school grounds or at a private venue owned by a good friend. I'd like to introduce them to salt water fishing, with wrasse, pollack macjeral and Gars as target species. Bearing in mind that these kids are difficult at the best of times, I would like them to be able to take a few fish througfh the day, size is unimportant, purely enough action to keep an interest. Float fishing seems the best option, to attempt to minimise tackle loss!! I have considerred harbour walls but am open to any suggestions from members please. If it helps, visit the school website to get an overview of the lads difficulties!! www.melchetcourt.com I appreciate this troops, thanks. Deep Sea Dean
Boscombe Pier has now re-opened and you can fish, might be worth a go for mackeral, gars and maybe bream/plaice on bottom gear. Wedger
Swanage pier looked very fishy and popular when I zipped over there from Xchurch on Saters. Well worth a go.
Gnasher
Can I fly fish there PJ??..................well attempt lmao!!! beat me 2 it pj... Rich, fish ragworm on float anywhere along the last half of the groyne on eitherside and the kids will bag up on wrass, small pollack and school bass. Fishing with an 1oz bomb ledgering with a light rod, again with a single rag and fished only a rod length out will get a bite a chuck, again mainly wrass, up to and over 2lb. I would say fly fishing would also be pretty easy from here mate, get a chum slick going and there will be garfish all over it. May be lucky with a bass also as theres plenty there. Id also ditch the fly and twitch back a long, silver and white single maccy feather, but rigged with a smaller hook. Gars should be pretty easy. Ive fished there loads over the years and it alsways produces fish. Edited June 2, 2008 by Gnasher

petesnr
I took parties of kids fishing for a number of years and we fished Weymouth's Stone Pier, Swanage, South Parade Pier(Southsea), Bournemouth Pier and Hengistbury Groyne. We had fish at every venue including smoothound off B'Mouth Pier and mullet off South Parade but without a doubt the venue that regularly produced the most fish was Hengistbury Head Groyne. We had over 600 fish one year mostly wrasse and blennies but also pollack, mackerel, garfish and bass. Good luck mate!
Swainiac
Thanks guys, we will spend a day there either sat or sun weather permitting. Being of the naughty ilk, I hope that the groyne isnt to heavillt populated with grockles adversed to the odd outburst of swearing from youngsters who swear they eat teuretti spaggheti for lunch!!! Im sure wew'll winkle a few tiddlers out. Will post a report after. Rich
