Before I buy new, does anyone have a small amount (5-10 mtrs) of quality braided rope? The kinda stuff yachties use for the halyards etc?

I want it as mooring rope, also as a 'painter' from the bow when launching and retreaving...the braided stuff is nice and smooth and sits on a cleat nicely.

Adam the problem with braid is that splicing is tricky and needs a special tool.

while 3 strand is easy to splice and cheap, polyprop is also nice and soft.

and it comes in blue to match your hull if you want to be posh like gary. wink.gif

Hmmm I know.

I dont need to splice it though, its more of just a general purpose rope to keep on the boat. At the moment I use the 2x mooring lines that came with her. However they are massive! 25mm? I think, and 'traditional' rope shaped, ie. twisted. They also are rotting slowely, are heavy, hold the water and take up loads of space!

Adam,

Friend at work recons he can get me a reel of the thin rope that "yachties" use for rigging etc. I will take him up on the offer and see what he comes up with.

( I think the stuff is thinner than you are looking for though ).

PS: Can you bring the O/B bracket on thurs plz ? - I will let you have your cheque back as I have no way of cashing it now ! smile.gif

I have some 6mm polyp... (something) rope, the blue stuff, good for general purpose I supposed.

I might also have a 10mm nylon rope, but that depends on how much I have got left over from making a lazy line for the anchor.

On the bit about your mooring rope, was it nylon? It shouldn't rot, not in a few years anyway.
