conger king Posted August 11, 2008 Report Posted August 11, 2008 have you canceled this comp i no i am not a member but was planing to fish it but cant find any info on it any more as i understand it was to be fished on the 16 november thanks Quote
Newboy Posted August 11, 2008 Report Posted August 11, 2008 The comp is down graded to just a club comp from this year. The reason being not enough members are willing to man the comp. A shame really, it has been very succeessful over the years, but if you haven't got enough ppl willing to help, we can't expect the same members (the chairman, secretary etc ) to do all the hard work. conger king Posted August 11, 2008 Author Report Posted August 11, 2008 thanks for that kam maybe they should have asked forum members to help and not hidden all the details not to worry we will still go out weather permitting? has the club got no committe ? i dont know , as do not want to join another club as time is taken up else where Quote

I thoroughly enjoyed them and I would fish them all if I get the chance. When Martin was chairman, he had to do the manning (is it a right word?) and never had the chance to fish the full allocation time, ie., go out late and come back early. Why should they have to give up their time so other members and outsider can have fun? Quote
conger king Posted August 12, 2008 Author Report Posted August 12, 2008 yes i agree with your answer but why was it advertised as a open comp, have the sponcers pulled out????????? it must take the same manpower to oversee a club comp as an open any thoughts Quote

Do you think it is reasonable to expect the committee to do all the work ? Asking forum members to help is unrealistic. It is a club open, so needs to be organised by club members. Besides, do you really expect that we will get a flood of offers to help from forum members who don't even want to join the club ? Quote
great white Posted August 13, 2008 Report Posted August 13, 2008 Tony I can understand your dissapointment that the comp has been cancelled, believe me you are not the only one. I have been on previous open competition sub Committee's and the Club Committee. I know that the Committee will not have made the decision lightly. Our current Committee volunteer to hold their posts and work hard for all of us Members. If more Members had stepped up to join the Sub Committee, the Club would not have had to make that decision. The decision was made by the Members that were at last weeks meeting and then passed on as soon as possible afterwards. I am sure you have reasons why you do not want to join the Club, but please be aware that remaining as a Forum Member excludes you from any decision making. Charlie Quote
oysterboats Posted August 15, 2008 Report Posted August 15, 2008 hi guys i to am dissapointed to learn that there will be no open comp this year and understand that your decision would not have been taken lightly, having run similar comps in the past myself I fully understand the complexity and the time involved in such a venture.having fished this comp for many years i would like to take this oppurtunity to thank past and present members who gave up their time and on many occasions the chance to fish it for running probably one of the best competitions on the south coast.R.I.P THE POOLE BAY SMALL BOAT CLUB OPEN Quote
Coddy Posted August 15, 2008 Report Posted August 15, 2008 (edited) Don't worry, the comp WILL be back next year. I am sure if will be as big if not bigger than previously and hopefully the economic climate will have improved to get more sponsors and prizes on the table. oysterboats Posted August 17, 2008 Report Posted August 17, 2008 i know this may be a bit off the wall but maybe it might not be a bad idea to approach other clubs in the area to form a competition only comitee,so that the stress could be shared out , as long as the comp is run as a non profit making event where all the entry fees are paid out to the winners. there are lots of other ways that the organising clubs could make money Quote
