alun j.
Adam and I only managed 4 bass [ 2 each]; best went to me at 5 lb. 11 oz. Lovely morning; lots of mackerel and conditions seemed perfect.... but it was slow. ......then the wind got up, traffic increased and less peaceful! But the sun came back out to enjoy a lunchtime beer in!! A very pleasant day.......except for the speedboats! Alun.
Mike Y
Plenty of bass for us this morning on live prawn and lures but nothing over 3 pounds - I have struggled to find the bigger bass this year with just one good one of over 7 pounds a few weeks ago. Neal
Starting at Peverell Ledge a few drifts drew a complete blank, so a trip round the corner with the intention of going down to St Aldhelms ledge "to have a look" Found a bit that looked fishy and with just enough live mackerel to give all three of us a go..... Dean started giving us a masterclass - straight into a nice lively fish of 5lb 8oz and second drift a fish of 5lb 7oz from exactly the same spot. Then John got one of 3lb and finaly I got one of 2lb Several drifts later with tackle losses mounting, I finally got a better fish which weighed exactly 8lb. With tide fading away and the prospect of wide over tide decided to head back. Final result Neal 8lb Dean 5lb 8oz and 5lb 7oz John Young 3lb
plaicemat
Gordon and I enjoyed our day on Enticer although it deteriorated in the afternoon when things got a bit lumpy. Mackerel were not really a problem and we finished the day with 3 bass, 1 to Gordon and 2 to me. SORRY. We also had a few dropped fish, all of which were huge! Final result: Gordon 3lb 9oz, Terry 5lb 1oz and 5lb 9oz. They may not win but they will taste good. And thank you for your hospitality last night, Gordon and Boss. It meant I didn't have to get up at 03.30 and actually made it through the day without falling asleep. Terry. britboard
An ok day on Play-hooky with 2 friends onboard, plenty of mackerel(and i mean loads) found of the back of the island, tried the bridge for a bit and found a lone 3lbish bass, but the boil and wind on the back side of the drift was deciding to put a bit more water into the boat than i was happy with, so we up sticks and headed for the ledge. We found Alun and Adam both looking happy-ish with the days progress but not the powerboats, we headed of uptide to start our first drift, joeys on floats produced a 4lb 2oz fish first run. we decided to move offshore a bit to run the tip of the ledge which proved to be a good move with each drift producing 2 fish on each of the first 3 drifts, nothing to get us the tin cup with the best going to 5lb 9oz. That action dried up after a bit so we moved inshore to try and find a few Bream without success but i did sneak out a big fat gurnard for dinner. All in all not a bad day, but would have been better if the wind had played ball, just nice to be out there, and the roads where suprisingly empty for a bank holiday weekend. great white
I think I need to get out and practise this bassing game We had a plan to get out at a comfortable 0800 get some bait and start at anchor then move on to the drift Our trouble was the lack of bait, by the time we found enough the tide was ripping we stayed at anchor too long before going on the drift and blanked at both. we were also intent on going further west for the easing flood but the rising wind over tide changed my mind. a last hour on a tiny wreck bought one eel boated one lost and no bass I blame the skipper for not having a better plan, and not sticking to the original one. A boat had one right next to us of about 8lb as he drifted past an anchored Alfresco so we were in a good area. Well done all that competed and Neal for a winning fish from a new mark Charlie
