Member Removed
I have had a look at the weather forecasts and obviously it has been really rough the last couple of days. I was planning on having the day off tomorrow to go fishing in Poole bay, but am not sure if it is going to be too rough. Can anyone confirm this for me. I have seen forecasts, but am not really sure what the amount to in terms of fishabibilty!! Thanks very much.
Adam F
It aint' gunna be nice! - I also have today and fri booked off, but have decided to go to work instead!! The forecast is for 4-6 and sea state moderate....I owuldnt go out if I were you. The harbour will always be OK though - one of the good things about Poole. Plenty of bass, wrasse, pollock and a few flatties just inside the harbour entrance. Member Removed
Thanks very much. I don't think I will be going out then!! Is the fishing good inside the entrance, i.e. what sort of sizes, frequency am I likely to see. Also what would be a good bait? Mackerel or rag? Is it best to catch the tide when it is starting to come in? Sorry for all the Q's am new to this!!
Adam F
No problems! - Rag is a good bet, this will catch you wrasee and pollock. Drift the 'castle' which is where the ferries dock on brownsea. Position yourself close to the pontoon (as long as no boats are there!) and drift back down the harbour. Nice simple rigs as the bottom is rough. Drift the chain ferry for bass with (preferably live) sandeel for bass, but beware at busy times, early morning or late eve is your best bet. If you can get just outside the harbour, the training bank is good to drift with rag for plaice and bass - it is usually pretty sheltered here during a WSW ish wind. Afishionado
Thanks very much. I don't think I will be going out then!! Is it best to catch the tide when it is starting to come in? Sorry for all the Q's am new to this!! The harbour entrance (The Haven) faces almost due east. The forcast wind is from the North West so there will be a wind over tide effect during the flood which will make that area a bit lumpy for a time. Best baits for that area are sandeels and rag. After all this stormy weather weed may well be a problem. Try the arrea close to the castle, either drift or anchor but stay clear of the frequent ferry boats.
