Brian Posted December 13, 2008 Report Share Posted December 13, 2008 (edited) It's probably insufficient water being injected into the exhaust to cool it enough. Check your raw water flow, possible causes of reduced flow are: 1. Blocked raw water strainer. 2. Damaged impeller. 3. Blockage in the heat exchanger. 4. Blockage in the oil cooler. Coddy Posted December 14, 2008 Report Share Posted December 14, 2008 Just a thought, the water inlet on the exhaust elbow can get restricted by the salt water, could be that it is not passing enough water into the exhaust system to keep it cool. I can keep my hand on the exhaust pipe without it getting burnt, it should not exceed 90 degrees C. Most high exhaust temp warnings are set for this maximum limit.
