great white
I have been watching an oportunity to get out come and go a bit The boat is ready, the crew full and very keen. Just the damn weather to keep an eye on Winds seem to have increased a bit and now we have the end of this cold stuff to contend with on a medium tide. But Maybe just maybe we can get out at last Anyone else tempted? Charlie
alun j.
'Tempted' ? ........ yes !!, constantly!! Was planning on going this morning, with the forecast rise in temp. .......BUT...... at first light, it wasn't [light], as snow clouds and wind gathered. We had more snow today than yesterday, albeit warmer, wetter slushy stuff ......... so plan abandoned and now postponed till Thurs. Just hoping lighter winds materialise ....... anyone like to join me ?? Alun.
Sinbad
Alun I'm looking at Friday... it'll be brrrrr freezing.... but then looks just the same but windier at the w/end. :Last chance for the winter whiting ??? Paul
alun j.
Sunday looking calmer from here on some of the more reliable sites, esp. early on. Could be worth a last look for cod and whiting, though tides are getting bigger. Alun.
Adam F
If Charlie goes and I can get my car out, and the forecast holds I might look at a run out on Sunday. It's only a might though - I'm not holding out much hope.... PS; Just seen LW is 15.30 - 0.6m so I'd have to be back on the mooring by 2.30pm... might stay warm and not waste diesel.. great white
Well we went out at 0810 on a calm sea heading for distant rust but just outside the harbour the engine warning sounded, we edged out a couple of miles as the code says a minor fault. then fished in the cold and later damp We caught plenty of pout a few small whiting, before a short move a few more pout and then Gordon had a medium sized small eyed ray. Dan had a couple of terrific bites that although nearly pulling his new rod overboard dropped his mackeral head. so there are still some fish out there. the day was spoilt by an alarm Volvo thought was fixed, but the very fresh air was nice, and the new rods seem good. Salterns are going to get very fed up with me if they do not sort this out soon. Charlie
Adam F
Not good Charlie, hope it's not serious and gets sorted? Keep us posted?
Sinbad
Charlie, Why dont you drive it into Salterns and park it across the entrance ? Sort of French Blockade style.... after all, you started it, by naming her "Al fresco" If you need some moral support, we could all form a raft out there Paul
great white
Hi all A little update on the Volvo Eventually got a call back on wed to de-sypher the message from the EVC for the boat. Apparently the code refers to which black box and which fault is noted. [Why it can not be easier to translate they could not tell me, especially as there is a readout on the tacho that tells you to check the engine and read the book , but does not give you a clue as to what fault you are looking for] My message was the same as Bob and Adams, basically low fuel pressure on the gallery rail. as the engine is 8 hrs from a 200hr service, I asked straight away if it could be a fuel supply issue, to get a reserved maybe. Off to Salterns to collect a set of Fuel filters, after checking that they will not change them again next month. Dan walked over at lunchtime from work today and by the time I got away from the office had changed 1 filter and was working on the second, that ones a little trickier as its connected to the water detector, but together we soon had them done. spiliges cleaned up and engine running. After work he came back and we spent 15/30 mins flat out blasting around the empty harbour at 30 knots, Dan enjoyed that No alarms and back to full power Its a shame It took so long to realise it was fuel and not coolant that was sounding the alarm, but it appears sorted now Only the next long trip will tell But I hope that it is Charlie
Coddy
Good to hear you are all sorted now Charlie. Shame you don't get a list of codes to help you sort things out before going to the dealer. Just need some good weather now! Coddy
