I have been emailing Craig Willis from Burnham to organise a trail away. The email copied below gives some suggestions on dates. Craig has since emailed me to say that the thornies have arrived.

May looks like the dates with sensible launch times

I would suggest we start a thread to see the interest levels

Well back to work with a bump!

I have just recieved an email back from Craig and it looks like the 31st May is on, subject to weather of course.

Can I suggest we confim who would be interested in Trailing their boat down to Burnham and any members who haven't made the trip before express thier interest, then we can hopefully take care of any concerns you may have.

Previous trips usually go like

Meet at Blandford Tesco car park for approximately 6.00am (local boats)

Travel in convoy to Burnham to be there for any potential break downs, arriving at 7.30 am to 8.00am

Burnham club use their tractor to launch all boats and park trailers in oposite car park.

Back in the car park for the weigh in 5.00 to 5.30pm

We normally buddy up with local boats for safety and marks. An interesting difference is up tiding can be quite productive

Species, Smooth hounds, Thorn backs in abundance, Bass and if you are really keen like Alun Jones loads of congers to 20lb laugh.gif Even a few codling.

Water is shallow 30' to 40', dark as drinking chocolate and plenty of tide movement, although in the shallow water and up tide gear, not really an issue.

Please post if you have any questions at all even if you think they could be daft, we all had to start somewhere.

Fingers crossed for the weather gods rolleyes.gif

Regards

Gordon

Simon's right guys! This is a great trip - and we have a huge number of trailer boats in the club that could go up.

Previous years have seen less and less boats go. PLEASE support Gordon and the club and get your butts up there!! biggrin.gif

Well I must admit to a Biase as I was born and bred just up the channel in Weston Super Mare but I am sure all that go will enjoy the trip.

Like the recent alderney trip its the change and the whole new experiance that makes it so good.

Please try and support the Club and Gordon on this one guys

Right - so 31st it is - can we have some info on baits, tactics and anything else we need? So we can prepare in the coming week.

Also, can they provide us with marks for fishing and marks to avoid so I can plot them in before we go?

Anyone else up for it????? I like the sound of thornbacks and smoothies - oh and a Bass \ Cod combo sounds good!!!!

Cheers

Hi guys.

as a member of bbosaa i hope as many of you as possible make the journey up.

there will be congers, rays and doggies where ever you anchor up but as a relative newbei i can't help you too much. i am hoping to be there on our boat "natalie jane" so say hello if you see me.

there are a few bass coming out at the moment and the smoothies have just started to show around the lilstock area so by the time you guys come hopefully it will be in full swing.

mainly uptiding but if downtiding you will only need 12lb class gear as most of the fishing is in under 25ft of water. only medium sized tides as well so most marks will be fishable with 3oz of lead.

bait wise rag, crab and squid will catch most species that swim in the channel.

hope this helps and you will certainly find the club to be very helpfull and if your lucky simon will even be down to help with the launching on his tractor!

Thanks for your support chaps. I will email Craig today to ensure that as there are only 3 of us, we get their top skippers to buddy and provide marks etc.

Let's keep an eye on the weather although I believe that anything from the South they are ok but some Northerlies if blowing hard can be a problem. From my memory of previous trips we have usually been only 2 or 3 miles from the shore at the most but have travelled down the coast 4 or 5 miles. And because of the shallow water, on a previous trip when it blew up it was well within Enticer's capabilities.

The up tiding definately seemed to work better than down tiding for me but we achieved this without uptiding rods. We could cast far enough with the 12lb class rods and small multipliers and small grip leads with the larger wires that you bend round yourself.

As far as baits go, squid is a must but Rag and I guess crab if you can find / afford it.

I will get comp rules confirmed ie number of rods / hooks etc

Will firm up any bits missed towards the end of the week

PS

I STILL NEED CREW

Sorry to let you down on this one, Gordon, but I am still hobbling from the operation and don't think I could get my leg over, as it were. To compensate, I'm clearing off to Munich to visit a poorly friend and probably drinking beer to commiserate with him.

Good luck to those who go, I know you'll enjoy the experience.

Terry.
