Mike Fox Posted April 19, 2009 Report Posted April 19, 2009 (edited) Frisky Fox has now hit the water and between us we managed 5 species. Shame it was 2 or 3 apiece. No threat to the experts, but with a brace of Tub Gurnard and a surprise Turbot from Carol (it was under 2lb and was returned), at least the boat species comp is off to a good start on our first day. Rob Posted April 19, 2009 Report Posted April 19, 2009 Cheers Mate - good fun afternoon. Not sure I am keen on being outcaught by someone half my height!!! Hope there are still some gingerbread men left over for next time!! R Quote
large fries Posted April 20, 2009 Report Posted April 20, 2009 That smile on Sam`s face sums up what fishing should be all about, well done nipper Rup Quote
Neal Posted April 20, 2009 Report Posted April 20, 2009 What a struggle that was..................... No matter what we tried or where we went, nothing seemed interested in our baits. Looks like we would have been better off sat on Poole Patch all day! Final Result Neal - 4 Wrasse, 2 Pout, 1 Dogfish - 24 Points John Young - 4 Wrasse, 2 Dogfish - 14 Points Mark Winfield - 4 Wrasse, 2 Dogfish - 14 Points Neal Quote
Rob Posted April 20, 2009 Report Posted April 20, 2009 Not sure whether Sam enjoyed it somuch when the Wrasse flapped and got us wet shortly after the pic!!! But we named him Wally the Wrasse so that was well funny!!! Quote
great white Posted April 20, 2009 Report Posted April 20, 2009 Well done Charlie and Sam That picture is worth a thousand words. I still have one of my Sam at about 2 1/2 with his first bass. Huge grin as he sits with his fish on his lap and his colourful wellies on. Well worth teaching the kids to fish and giving up some of the serious trips to make sure they enjoy it. Look what happened to me Both boys now well over 6ft tall, so I had to get a bigger boat Result Charlie Quote
reb Posted April 20, 2009 Report Posted April 20, 2009 Great to see the young lad with such a smile on his face - he will expect to be catching fish every time out so no problem there then The results form Janski II !!!!! Mike Norman :- 4 LSD , 1 Whiting. I make that 12 points Richard Biggs :- 4 LSD , 1 Whiting. Also 12 points We were both out-fished by the non-member - Mike's son Tony who accrued 24 points 4 LSd, 2 Pout, 1 Whiting. Quote
charlieannear Posted April 20, 2009 Report Posted April 20, 2009 Sam was so excited about going out that he'd been buzzing around at home all morning- it tired him out! He fell asleep just after passing the chain ferry, and stayed asleep despite heading over to Poole Patch at 18 knots, with a few leaps off waves. Not his first fishing trip though. He caught quite a few mackerel last summer. His favourite thing is to catch more than Rob! Quote
charlieannear Posted April 20, 2009 Report Posted April 20, 2009 Rob's been wondering about fish identification and he thinks this might actually be a Corkwing Wrasse rather than a Ballan Wrasse. What do you guys think? Must get a decent fish book and like Charlie C says in his post, must remember to weigh the fish! Quote
codpiece Posted April 20, 2009 Report Posted April 20, 2009 Little lad does not seem to be enjoying it. derek Quote

carl/overdraft Posted April 20, 2009 Report Posted April 20, 2009 Great stuff Charlie didn't see Sam on board when you came over to us he must have been asleep. Great pics. Quote
Rob Posted April 20, 2009 Report Posted April 20, 2009 Charlie, I thought the last fish Sam caught was a cork wing - i remembering mentioning the blue colouration to you. Rob Quote
Adam F Posted April 20, 2009 Report Posted April 20, 2009 The fish in the picture is a ballan - 100% Corkwings are common around here, but seldom caught - similar for Rock Cooks - I see hundreds when diving, but have caught only 1 or 2 in the years Ive been fishing. Quote
Paul D Posted April 20, 2009 Report Posted April 20, 2009 Results from Neo were :- Paul D :- 1 Ballan Wrasse and 2 Pout. Grim ! Quote
