pirky Posted June 22, 2009 Report Posted June 22, 2009 I am looking for some opinion regarding the rods used in the bay for the smaller species like bream and pollack/pouting etc. I have some of the more powerful sticks 201b 30lb etc but they dont provide much fun.....I am thinking a 6-12lb rod or a 2-3oz spinning rod but would like to know what the experienced men have for these little beauts. or if I am better to stick with a 12lb "just in case the jaw dropper takes the bait" Dave Quote
Adam F Posted June 22, 2009 Report Posted June 22, 2009 Dave, I use a pair of 3oz Shimano spinning rods - great fun for bream and bass when leads lighter than 3oz can be used. Most of the time a 12lb class rod is an over kill. Also check out the lighter Solid C rods. Adam Quote
Wedger Posted June 22, 2009 Report Posted June 22, 2009 I have 2 off ugly stik - a 6lb x 8' 6" and a 12lb same length, very strong and great fun. 2 Hiro formula bass lure rods for bream, live baiting and lure fishing covers every thing I do ex. sharking. Great fun. Trev Quote
pirky Posted June 25, 2009 Author Report Posted June 25, 2009 Thanks Trev.....general trend is 6lb OR 3-4oz spinning..... just gotta check out the rods. Some help from other post too.. Thanks again Dave Quote

Adam F Posted June 25, 2009 Report Posted June 25, 2009 Just checked my spinning rods and they are infact lighter than 3oz....15-40grms Quote
Mike Fox Posted June 25, 2009 Report Posted June 25, 2009 Have used light spinning rods for years for the above - 2oz rated, with a 3oz lead seems to be fine on the drift and in Poole/Christchurch Bays out of tide. My Ugly Stik Spin 8' has coped with bass to over 14lb and conger to 40lb, so has the grunt when needed, and is fun too ! Mike Quote
