Coddy
Hi Colin I have a report on my web site. See link in my signature Coddy
Adam F
Great boats. Very capable, solidly built - great fishing machines. Quite expensive new for what you get IMO - you get lots, but they cost a bit with all the extras - 2nd hand usually better value. Worth a chat with Tomo or Trev on here. biggcol
Hi Coddy Thanks had a look at your site Pirate looks good. Thanks Adam already in contact with Tomo, but didn,t realize Trev had one too. Only just started looking. Also looking at a Cheeta got to get it right it's a lot of money. Any other suggestions from the floor will be looked into. I want as much as I can get for as little as I have to pay out. But above all it has to be a GOOD FISHING BOATcapable of making it to Alderney etc. Cheers Colin
Adam F
Tomo has the newer one built by Pembrokeshire Yachts - he has a 225 Honda on it and all the toys - very nice. Trev's one is one of the original MI's built by Souter - if you are looking a new package or nearly new then have a look at Just Perfik (Tomo's) I was in a very similar situation a few years back - wanted to move from a day boat to something bigger, and the MI21 was on the list. I had a good look at the Cheetah and was hugely impressed, but the one big downside was the lack of bunk space for overnighting - you loose it due to the catamaran hull giving no space up front. Apart from that they are awesome fishing machines - immensly stable and nippy with just small engines. If it helps before we bought the Aquafish the list was something like: Pirate 21 Cheetah Cat 6.8m Arvor 23/25 Merry Fisher 625/655/695 Rodman 610/700 Pheaton 730 Aquafish 23 We went with the A/fish as wanted somehting offshore capable, sterndrive to keep the speed and fuel economy and wanted 7m+ - plus the idea of building it ourselves won the day. It was a tough decision all the boats were good, it just came down to personal preferance. I'm sure you'll do plenty more research - if you want to chat about my findings drop me a line - if you want a ride out in JV - again, you are more than welcome. great white
What no offshore on the list I have no regrets about mine, she has the speed, endurance and comfort that we wanted when we picked which boat to build. Seriously I believe Tomo has a cheetah on order as a move from the pirate 21 so he would be a good man to talk too. and of course pick Tom's brains, he is now an arvor dealer but has a very broad knowledge of most fishing boats and multi hulls Happy hunting Charlie
biggcol
Thanks all lots of research to be done. We have a sea trial booked on a Cheeta next month and our boat show tickets are on the mantle piece. Self finish sounds great but just don't have the time. A trip on JV sounds good they are nice boats and Bobi likes the look of the orange one in Christchurch. The hunt is on!!!
Adam F
What no offshore on the list They dont really make a boat in this category? Sure the P3 25' but that is a short version of yours and bought factory finished from Offshore would be alot more than the boats above and probably without the finish as you said yourself - they build workboats? Col - drop me a PM when you are free and I'll take you for a whizz in JV. Adam

TomBettle
If looking at Cats, then yes, the Cheetah is very good. Sean has been building them since the first marine ply one was built and still (I believe) being beach launched at Ventnor to this day, some 14 or 15 years later. However, in my very humble opinion, the worlds best small catamaran is the Glacier Bay. I am in the luck position to be able to order them in as an unofficial Dealer via their Eastern Atlantic distributor and parent manufacturer, World Cat. Seriously, I have an interest in them as they are the absolute dogs danglies of catamarans, complete with the massive benefits they bring, but maintain all the ease of ownership of a mono hull. Look at the smaller cuddy versions such as the 2270. Go with the model in the picture and add a set of clears to the T Top for complete cuddy style weather protection. http://www.glacierbaycats.com/show/boats/m...2270_cuddy.html Two living legend skippers have each owner a Glacier Bay for their private use. Roger Bayzand and Roddy Hayes (incidentally, both good friends) cannot say enough good things about them.... I trust their opinions implicitly and if I ever had the spondoolies, I would invest in the 2680 Hardtop with their Alaska Pack closing wheelhouse door... http://www.glacierbaycats.com/show/boats/m...ed_hardtop.html
Adam F
However, in my very humble opinion, the worlds best small catamaran is the Glacier Bay. LOL! You make me laugh... The 'best' cat in the World.... that is some statement Tom. You been on one in UK waters? I'm teasing a little.... and they do actually look like a nice boat. I'd compare them to a Trophy with 2 hulls. Very little room on the deck in the photos - a couple of tackle boxes, a live tank etc and no room for anglers - IMHO this is where the Cheetah scores. I think for a hardcore UK fishing cat up to 7m then the Cheetah wins. Over this then you get alot more choice - but the cost really rockets. I also found even the 7m Cheetah out of my budget when I looked - for a start the running gear is x2.....
Adam F
....mind you the big one looks damn nice! http://www.glacierbaycats.com/show/boats/m...dy_hardtop.html What sort of money is the 23' then Tom?
TomBettle
You been on one in UK waters? I'm teasing a little.... and they do actually look like a nice boat. I haven't but it was Roger Bayzand that bought one (and his South Cat) as a result of being completely out handled when on his old monohull charter boat by Roddy Hayes in the Alderney Race. Roger's boat was in the region of 10m+ and Roddy was on a very much smaller Glacier Bay and running rings around him. It is a huge amount better constructed than a Trophy (my opinion) and works on the displacement hull theory (same as Troms Explorer) so is both fast and incredibly economical for the power used. As for space... depends on the model you go for, but essentially it is a centre console which has masses and masses of all round space. Far more suitable for drifting than the silly "cuddy up front" concept that us Brits tend to work to and automatically losing all that available space. Fine at anchor, not much use on the drift... Even the cuddy versions have deep walk arunds to get forward and whilst the cockpit space will be akin to a typical Pilot House (rather than a pure fisher) this will give the benefit of have the benefit of offering a much more comfortable helm position (less movement further aft), the benefit of almost zero roll, the stability of a cat, the smooth ride of the cat, the efficiency of the cat..... Tremendous boat, without the downsides of a Cat (due to good design) such as sneezing or a tendency to try and broach in a following sea (NB: not all Cat's do this, but it is a trait). Price.... no doubt it will be fairly shocking at the moment with the exchange rate against us, but the cuddy version of the 2270 with twin 115's will be in the region of
Tomo
I have had great fun on my Pirate 21 and will be very reluctant to part with it....but I just fancy a lot more comfort in my senior years..... so have opted for the 9m Cheetah Cat.....with all the bells and whistles.....as when cod fishing in the winter one needs a bit of comfort, but for the rest of the year...you can't beat it. Another reason is the draft of the Cheetah....at only 400mm for the 9M....and mooring in Xchurch will give me a bigger window on the tides!.....Iv'e already found the sand bars a couple of times. Colin Unfortunately no Glacier Bays! ...still trying to persuade the boss to stock a new brand that uses a concept (cats) that hasn't yet been widely accepted amongst private boat users whilsy in a recession. For some reason he is not too keen on the idea? Do have several Arvors in stock though. A 190, a 215AS and a 280. The 190 and the 215AS are both the end of the last production years stock, still brand new, but will have very good deals on them. Anyway, less of the selling! You'll be welcome down to have a browse if you wanted to take a stroll around the marina. All the best Tom
