I have my own boat although i dont use it alot (which really annoys me) i dont have a VHF cert. Can anyone tell me the first thing to do as i want to do it properly. Its a Warrior 165 and we use it for fishing out of herne bay and up to a range of about 12 miles. Brian Posted September 8, 2009 Report Share Posted September 8, 2009 (edited) You need a "Short Range Certificate (SRC) Licence". Do a Google search for RYA courses in your area for GMDSS VHF. The course is one day, but you need to learn the Phonetic Alphabet before you go.
