Coddy
Right With the weather as it is and the forum as quite as a church mouse I thought I would try and get some thoughts going on traces to use when we can all get out! What do the "experts" recommend for a good set up for going after the elusive cod and possible whiting? Do you recommend pennel hooks, if so what is the best sizes? What trace line strength for cod? Similarly what is best for whiting? Lets hear your thoughts Got to get ready for whenever I can get out and just found out my trace wallet has very few "cod" rigs! Adam F
I dont bother tying them before I go - it just gives them a chance to go rusty. I tie them on site. I use 60lb trace with a pair of 6/0 Varivas Big Mouth's for cod. I 'snell' (google it) the top hook using a knotless-knot and then tie on the bottom hook. This gives a fixed pennel. For whiting - a simple patenoster made from 30lb mono, a swivel top and bottom and make a pair of booms from the trace line with overhand loops. Simples. Twin 6/0 on sliding pennel 60 lb or stronger line for cod a Twin Patenoster with 1/0 hooks for the whiting Dave if you want to see a couple pop around the corner to the house.
