    I’ll get my coat ....

One day God calls down to Noah and says, "Noah me old china, I want you to make me a new Ark". Noah replies, "No probs God, me old Supreme Being anything you want after all you're the guv'. But God interrupts, "Ah, but there's a catch. This time Noah, I want not just a couple of decks, I want 20 decks one on top of the other". 20 DECKS!", screams Noah. "Well, OK Big Man, whatever you say. Should I fill it up with all the animals just like last time?" Yep, that's right, well . .. sort of right . .. this time I want you to fill it up with fish", God answers. Fish?", queries Noah. "Yep, fish. . .well, to make it more specific Noah, I want carp - wall to wall, floor to ceiling -Carp!" Noah looks to the skies. "OK God my old mucker, let me get this right, you want a New Ark?" Check". With 20 decks, one on top of the other?" Check". And you want it full of Carp?". Check". Why?" asks the perplexed Noah, who was slowly but surely getting to the end of his tether. Dunno", says God, "I just fancied a Multi-Storey Carp Ark". I’ll get my coat!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Codfather fished with myself and Mike Hall between Swanage and old Harry only one bass not to great in size either! Conditions were calm more chop in the harbour than out, still a enjoyable 7 hours fun.

Lazy start with son and out for livebaits. Three or four caught and then drifted the harbour entrance - eventually the rod hooped over and a bass was on. Not a biggie 44cm 2lb 2oz. That was it for us. Weed became an issue so it was a 3pm finish and a pint.

I decided to stick inshore for the bass comp; mackerel and scad were few and far between and mostly the ones caught were too big for bait, a herring did also show up, first of the year for me. The biggest of the scad weighed exactly a 1lb. It took well over 2 hours before there were a few decent baits in the live well. When I finally started for bass they were having it but there was a lot of weed around which made it frustrating and I soon ran out of decent bait, not helped by a few dying when the live well filter got blocked with eel grass, that's the second week running that's happened, grrr. Tried a live pollock of probably just under a 1lb and had a couple of takes on that from bass with eyes bigger than their belly, I saw them but they dropped off before I could net them. The biggest of the bass went 6lb 5oz weighted back at the marina for accuracy, I returned it. Others were mostly around 4lb with a couple at 2lb or so taken while fishing for bait.

Well, JV headed south and rendezvoused with Silver Spray on a mark for mackerel, we ran out almost alongside with SS heading slightly more east. With baits in the tank, hopes were high. We had many drifts over the days on the same set of banks, and at least a fish a drift. We couldn't restock the bait tank quickly enough. The macs were like bass sweets. Many a triple hook up was had and what a cracking day. We must have had 40+ fish. Nothing of any size, Ian can confirm but his biggest might have been 4lb 6oz. We seems to have hit a year class as most of them were like peas in a pod, around 2.5lb. Smaller than last time we visited but more prolific. Silver Spay paid us a visit for the last drift (over 3.knts), not sure what day they had and whether they had been searching around for fish or just big fish. Great day, bass and macs for dinner, great lunch (thanks Ian) and super company. Rob

    Fish Heads

Now, I'm not one for wasting bait or potential bait. However, I have a freezer full of minced fish, heads and muck for rubby dubby. Not needing anymore and having a surplus of mackerel a number of weeks ago I posted on a local Facebook group that I had 20 fresh mackerel heads and guts if anybody could make use of them. When prepping macs for eating I cut behind the head through the spine and then along to anal fin, this is quick and clean leaving the body of meat and guts/belly flap still attached to the head. Well, I could have got rid of these heads 5 times over. First to answers was a local beach angler, and not having access to fresh macs easily from the shore he was please for a bag of bass baits. I was glad not to fill the food waste bin with fish. Anyway, Sam is my go to Mac head guy, he has been a few times now and usually I am out when he is passing, I leave by the gate and when I get home they are gone. Today I had 4 from yesterday and I finally met him. Nice chap, as you can imagine we talked fishing for a bit and he was on his way. This is a great way to recycle fish baits and reduce waste, plus saves the beach guys spending £2.50 on a couple of macs. Win win as far as I am concerned and I will hopefully be supplying him with more over the coming weeks. Just a thought if any of you guys have waste fish, one man's waste is another man's bait. Rob

Sweet Chariot went east but time constraints meant we could only get out for the morning flood. A bit lumpier out on the banks than expected but still an enjoyable day with plenty of fish, best bass at 5lb6oz.

  15. Fastnet Race Multihulls leaving the Solent. Manta Ray being passed. Leader at the time. Very impressive speeds considering the wind speed. Around 400 racers passed the Needles as the day went on. Where some of the competitors are now.
